BOSS 304 Wheels

I will never be able to explain how much I am disappointed in the quality and customer service in BOSS WHEELS. I'll save it for another day.

I have 20 inch BOSS 304 wheels on my '85 swb 2wd. has original suspension still and 5x5 lug pattern. I put these wheels on 'for now' and the dust covers poke out the center cap! how hard is it for a manufactorer to get it right? Wheels are not cheap! anyways. is there a fix for this besides beating the crap out of the dust cover.

I also have a 5/7 djm drop kit. it has drop spindles I was wondering if these spindles may be shorter and fix this problem?

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

Sorry Guys I should have introduced myself first. My name is Channing I'm from Graham, TX currently live in Wichita Falls,TX. I have a 2003 GMC Sierra and I have a '85 swb silverado. I have owned the '85 since 2001 when I was 16. Currently still has the original 305 as far as I know. I replaced the th350 about 100miles/4 years ago lol. I have alot of work ahead of me still. It has hedman shortie headers. true dual flows dumped at the rear. I want to install a 6.0/4l80 and maybe a maggie. If i get a job, I'm currently laid off from the oilfield. I have a djm 5/7 drop that I'll install soon. And I recently threw on the Boss 20s and Nitto 555 tires. 255/35 front & 275/35 rear. In the future I want it black and 20/22 Coys in gunmetal. There is also a SirMichaels Roll pan and the tailgate is shaved. The truck will have everything shaved except handles, locks and tail lights. Thanks guys here's 2 pictures of how it sits today.

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

Thanks I appreciate it. I have ordered Polygraphite bushings from P.S.T. hopefully they'll be in soon so I can lower it and get that dumb looking ride height in a better stance lol

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

I had the same wheels on my 82 SWB on the front and 22s on the rear. Center caps fit fine on mine.

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

Wow, I was reading this post because I also put on some Boss wheels about 6 weeks ago but I have been putting the truck back together and hadn't tried the center caps yet, they have just been sitting on my hood. After reading your post, I ran out to my shop to see if my center caps would fit and of course...they didn't! Now I'm pissed off too!. I took off the dust cover to see how much room there is to spare, but the nut is pretty close to the dust cover, so even modifying the dust cover doesn't seem like an option. Man, am I pissed. I will be going to the tire shop tomorrow to see what can be done.
Did you come up with anything on your end?
Cheers from BC

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

i ran into the same problem with my wheels as well, exact same 20x8.5 boss 304's. all i had to do was grind my hubs down a bit, put a 1/4" spacer on (which still leaves the minimum required amount of threads for the lug-nuts)and the center caps just snapped right on! was very simple to do! just make sure the center caps are the snap on type, not the bolt on.

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

On my rims it seems as though the hubs and dust caps are so big that they take up all of the room where the center caps are supposed to clip in (ie. they take up all of the center hole space). Steemin Ehman, did you shave off the hubs outer circumference to create more space outside of it (so that there is more space between the hub and the rim)...and if so, how did you do this?
Cheers

Thats exactly what i did, and the 1/4" spacer is there because of my dust caps. i couldv'e probably went with thinner spacers, but i wanted to be sure the caps would work on the first attempt. as far as doing the shaving of the hubs outer circumference.. i knocked off about 1/4" off the diameter (or 1/8" depth) with a standard angle grinder, which resulted in a tapered hub (as you can see in my above picture... unfortunately i dont have a before pic to compare.) structurally, that part of the hub only holds the dust cap in place, and its so small of a change (and close to point of wheel rotation), it doesnt affect balance of the wheel, or strength of the hub having an "imperfect hub taper".

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

IMO As much as wheels cost I'm not modifying my pickup for them to fit. I'll just get better wheels. BOSS is the worst wheel company in the world anyway. They sent me three 5x5 wheels and one 5.5x5 wheel. wtf am I going to do with that? Took three months to get me the correct wheel. They have pits and marks all over them. Time for Coys

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

I beat the crap out of my dust covers. And now the problem lies in the gap between wheel hub where the snap ring of the hub cap fits. not wide enough.

Re: BOSS 304 Wheels

I saw this post a couple days ago right after I ordered my 304's. I was a bit worried, but was hoping steemin_ehman's fix would work for me too.

After a whole 5 minutes of turning the rotor with one hand and grinding with the other, I was also able to taper the hubs to clear the caps. My dust cap wasn't contacting the wheel cap, so I didn't need to worry about spacers.

I don't know if it matters, but my rotors are 1.25" thick, not the 1" thick ones. Could be the 1" hubs are smaller in diameter. Maybe dropd80s and StepinNJ had the 1" and is why they had no problems.

Anyway, I'm lovin' my 304's! I don't know if they are cast or machined, but they have a nice smooth finish, not wavy like some wheels I've seen.
