coil cut off?

really want to lower my truck got no money
so im gonna cut my springs
i know i know dont do it but im gonna.

has anyone done this
how many coils would i have to cut off to give me a good 2/4 maybe 3/5 drop?

cut off one coil up front, thats good for a 2 to 3 inch drop.
you cant cut the rears, they need the pigtails on both ends.

In a 67 I used to have, 2 coils in the front = 6". I put 2" blocks in back and then torched em for a couple more. Not the right thing to do but we were all "young and dumb" once. (no offense!)

Longhorn Man, when you say 2-3 inches does that just vary by the age or use of the spring? I am going to put in 2 inch lowering blocks in the back and would like get as close to a 2 inch drop in the front as possible. I guess I should cut less than one coil and reinstall them and check? Thanks for your help.

all kinds of variables, the age of the springs, the p/n of the springs (there were more than 3) the amount of abuse they have had... you may be at a 1 or 2 inch drop right now and don't even realize it.

Like Andy said, you cannot cut the rears.

I've cut one coil and want more so I've been searching for info on cutting but find I can only cut one or two completely off because of the way the spring keys in. My question is has anyone secessfully cut a quarter or half ring out?

I know I'm getting 5" drop spings from cpp and an ajustable trac bar
Will I need four new lower shocks?
But cutting the front ones I want a good 3/5 drop
One coil should do this?

Will I have to ajust my camber by shimming the upper control

yes ... you will need to have the front re-aligned once the coil is cut and reinstalled ... most times it will require shims to reset the camber

I use this rule:
1/2 coil cut= 1" of drop. (this can vary between vehicles)

You can correct the camber issues with shims,... but I would suggest getting a front end alignment to address caster and toe also.

i cut 1/4 coil on the front springs on the burb. No issues at all.

I agree 1/2 coil cut = 1"drop , I have cut 1 1/2coils for a 3" drop many times with great results. buy new ones for the rear(5 inch)
