adding ac?

How hard/expensive is it to add a/c to a truck that does not have?

Awhile back I asked this question and was told that a non-AC truck has a much smaller hole in the firewall than an Factory AC equipped truck. What is right?

Re: adding ac?

to add a/c in no a/c truck you will have to modify the firewall

Can you give me an idea of what modify means. Is it just enlarging the hole? Is their a pattern that you have used? Is there a post on it somewhere? I am very interested in this I'd love to factory air in my truck!

Re: adding ac?

that vintage air kit looks pretty sweet. i called them and they said its $1,125. all you need besides their kit is a 3 groove crank and a 2 groove water. Hmmmmmm. It is hot as hell here in seattle right now.

Re: adding ac?

what is it with old guys and sweaters anyway? I got mine out the last couple days and the perspiration kept me cool. I tried driving with my head out the window and my tongue hanging out like my lab, but all it got me was a real weird bee sting.

Iv'e followed a couple of post on this A/C conversion.
Just noticed that your Alternator is now mounted on the Driver's side? Is that part of the "Vintage Air" setup? I see it makes the A/C hoses much shorter.

If not part of the conversion , why did you switch and who's brackets are you running.

Still trying to decide if I want to go the vintage route or swap an OEM system in , I have a doner vehicle. any help appreciated.

Re: adding ac?

i'm going to try a multi quote.this is a big advancement for an "old guy".first i'll deal with the legitamate question.then move on to address the old guy comment from the whippersnapper.
the vintage a/c kit comes as a driver side compressor setup.however,it can be ordered so you can swap sides with your alternator.i had planned on hiding the hoses thru the fenders.but,i got in a hurry and just did it.at the least you don't have hoses draped over the engine this way.someday down the road when i do an engine swap i'll hide the hoses.the polished compressor is an upgrade option also.vintage air sent me the wrong brackets twice.then i found out thru them that they get all their brackets from alan grove anyway.so,i called alan grove and they hooked me up right the first time.i was really impressed with their knowledge and quality.i hope that answers your question desert 1957.
now,for the old guy with a sweater thing.......i don't even own a sweater.i suppose you pictured me with it on and pipe and slipper's too ? i knew i was gonna here something about that one.i shoulda just said coat.as far as you and your black lab riding around together........i'm suprised he got in the cab with you on a hot day.i thought labs were smarter than that. by the way......i am an old guy.i couldn't even figure out multi quote.i clicked multi on both posts i wanted but still didn't work.

It looks like the link is broken, there shouldn't be the all the "......." in there. See if you can get your link to open, then copy the address as you see it in your address bar.

Is it this one?
