Question for the Senior Members (long time members)about Woodgrain dash

Hey guys, I have been on the board for what seems like a lifetime now. I remember years and years ago, that someone mentioned how they were able to save a few of the original woodgrain dash overlays off of old dash bezels by soaking them for a few days in something. For the life of me, I can not find that same post after 3-4 hours searching over the past couple days. I have tried everything. I know it was discussed long ago, but I have no idea where it is. Does anyone happen to remember anything on the topic. Much appreciated. Trevor

WD-40 or Liquid Wrench. Start a corner and soak. Keep repeating until it comes off. Of course it ruins the glue but you save the over lay.

Re: Question for the Senior Members (long time members)about Woodgrain dash

WD-40? I have seen a number of times when spraying WD-40 on something that contained plastic ended up softening the plastic. I'd find something that I could sacrifice before I risked screwing up the original stuff.

I have a couple rolls of Dinoc, which is the woodgrain stuff that GM used in the 70's. One is a full roll, the other has been used for pieces like adding woodgrain on something. I thought about trying to use it over the past 30 years, but didn't find anything that I thought it would look good on. But, an old friend (now dead) did use it to re-do the woodgrain on his '51 Chevy. Looked good, but he was a perfectionist. I don't know of anyone else who would go to the trouble he went to.

Actually the last time (a couple of weeks ago) I tried this, I used Liquid wrench in the squeeze bottle. I was removing the woodgrain sticker of of my glovebox that I got from Classic parts. It didn't mess up the Vinyl which are what these films are made of. I wouldn't try it on polystyrene though.
