what do you mean by cab marker lights. I have shaved almost everything on my truck and would like to help but i need some clarification.

Clearance lights mounted on top of the cab roof.

ok my truck did not have those so i probably wont have great advice, but common metal practices should be used here. When i shaved my drip rail the roof metal was pretty thin and if you have rust issues it will probably be even thinner making your project tough. But work in small areas and use cardboard to help you cut the metal pieces you will use to fill the whole. When welding patience is the key because you do not want this metal to get very hot. I bet it would be very difficult to use on the cab marker lights but a trick i learned a while back was get a little piece of copper and if you can hold it or mount it behind where you are wleding it will help when welding thin metal. First your welds will not stick to the copper, and it is easier to fill holes because the welds will sit on the copper and instead of burning holes through thin metal it will help you weld up the holes. Hope this helps.

My advise is forget about it.I believe you now can buy a new outer roof skin.

I guess I will wait to weld the holes until I get a replacement roof header panel. There is no way to access the holes from the back side without removing this panel. Anybody know what i can use to cover these holes until then? Duct tape doesn't hold up well to sunshine.

I have been searching for weeks and all I can find is the inner roof header panel.

A few years ago I pieced together a little short bed truck and the only cab I had to use was a 1 ton truck cab. I just made 5 little circles out of scrap aluminum plate. I ran a bead of silicone around the hole in the cab and screwed the plates down with machine screws.

Why would you ever want to shave the cab lights....especially if you have a nice 1-ton cab? I luv them lights on a 1-ton flatbed...hmmmmmmm! Wish they had come stock on the Longhorns!

There are those who would prefer these lights and would trade cabs.These lights are cool as all get out on the right truck.talk to tim Christian about the roof skin.He`s the one that mentioned they are available now.

I have a 1/2 ton with the factory tear drop clearence lights and I don't like them just for the simple fact of what I am dealing with now...RUST and I dont think they would look right on a dropped C-10.

What the matter with y'all? i have to agree i love my roof lights! i have guys wanting to buy an old rusted out one ton cab i have just to have the lights

I just bought a cancer free 1-Ton cab with only a little bit of surface rust and I am going to use it to replace my existing rotted out cab. I am not a big fan of the cab lights and will probably take the roof skin off of my old cab and weld it onto my new cab.

On the fourth pic the dark area near the kick panel is dirt....not rust.

i see you have a`67 or`68,so the lights are add-ons.You have the non-marker lamp roof skin already.you can just weld-in the holes.If theere`s a bigger hole for the wire or gasket you may need to cut a piece of steel to weld in.

The cab is a '70 and is raised where the lights go, just like in Tx Firefighter's picture in his post.

cab lights look good on a 1/2 ton truck. its one of the little details that get me excited when i see a vintage chevy. my dad's 72 burb 1/2 ton 2wd was blue w/ a white roof and had the 8 inch chrome teardrop roof lamps (normal 3 closer in the middle and 1 on each side). it looked good coming down the road at night (kinda like a big rig) and it matched the lighting pattern on my family's 71 holiday camper. we still have the trailer and i saved the lights in '95 when we found my dad's truck in a local junkyard. they need to be re-chromed but i intend to install them on my "new" 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd. that and tossing the dinky sport mirrors in favor of flip out stainless towing mirrors off an '84 burb and my truck will be a proper trailer towing rig! normally i wouldn't bother installing lights on a sportier setup, but i wouldn't shave them if the cab in question already had the provision. just add a ton of LED's and other accessories and a lowered truck would look very far out with cab lights.

I wouldn`t attempt cutting the mounds out and patching.A section of standard top would be the way to go.Check into the new roof skin.
