72 SWB I brought home

Well I finally found a daily driver. It was originally found by someone who randomly emailed me asking me if I wanted to purchase a short box truck. I said send me some pics and I instantly decided I would be getting it for a daily driver.
Well I talked to the guy on the phone a couple of times and went to see it while passing through to Phoenix. I went back last night and picked up the truck and trailered it home. The pics speak for themselves. A little rust on the floorboard mostly surface rust. Not sure if anything is all the way through.
you can see how clean the truck is. It started right up but needs a new thermostat and housing. It also has a fuel leak coming form somewhere in the carb onto the intake. I am going to chase all that down today and get it in drivable condition.

The SPID is in great condition and everything seems very very clean!

Near future plans will be lowered, 20" coys, at least a 285 in the back and a 255 tire in the front. Of course I will build a nice streetable small block for it. Then it will be onto body work and paint. somewhere in there I will put a 67-68 front clip on it as well.

Re: 72 SWB I brought home

That is one sweet Truck. I love the colors!!! lol. I was noticing the SPID and what is the code 1pv54b -- h78-15-b highway BB? I have the exact same code on mine. By the looks of it, it shouldn't take you long to get it out on the streets. Great score.

Re: 72 SWB I brought home

the thermostat housing has been off and open for a few years. What can I do to try and clean that area out before installing a new thermostat in there?

I hate that your other truck was stolen , I really like the one you just got ,
by the way what did you say your address was ?

soak the thermostat in wd-40 and take a wire brush on a drill to it keeping it wet with wd-40 , it will clean right up

Re: 72 SWB I brought home

bought a new thermostat and housing, both were corroded. Filled it all up with antifreeze, grabbed the bottom hose and it was hard as a rock, the wire in there which I did not think about is rusted badly and crumbling. Guess I need a new lower hose. Going to pick that up as well, tried to filter out all the now orange antifreeze cause of the rust in there but Ill get it going and lfush it in a few weeks.
The goal for the day is change all the fluids, fix the fuel leak from somewhere on the carb, and get it driveable. There is still time left in the day. LOL

Re: 72 SWB I brought home

I got the lower hose replaced and now there is a leak form in the water pump area, it seems to be dripping down the front of the motor to the lower pully and onto the crossmember.

Also since being started the tranny is now leaking quite a bit, i guess not moving for awhile has also made the tranny seal somewhere leak.

The carb is also coming off as it does not run to good and hesitates badly. I figure it needs one hell of a cleaning anyways.

Ill try to get all that done tomorrow and go from there.

If I had to guess... 3.5/5" drop, followed by 20's on all 4-corners.
