Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
I have tried searching the site for this and couldn't come up with anything. I was wondering if there was a 14 bolt rear out of a certain year or model of vehicle that would bolt into a 72 Blazer without having to change the spring perch location? I thought I saw somewhere that a 14 bolt out of a 1 ton van had the same spring perch width?

Re: Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
After doing some more searching I found a lot of mixed info but it seems like the 1973 and up 14 bolt full float out of 1 tons will have the spring perches in the correct location and the semi float 14 bolts out of 3/4 tons would need the perches relocated. Can someone verify this?

A 1 ton rear will bolt in to your truck. Might need to change shock mounts, not very familiar with the pre-72s. Spring perch on 1 tons are 40.5" and 1/2 and 3/4 tons are 42.5".

The full float 14bolts from 3/4ton CREW CABS have the same perch width as all 1 tons. Why I don't know...but they do.

3/4 -1ton ton full float single wheel will not bolt in . 1 ton dully will from what i have read. I have a 14 bolt 3/4 ton full float single wheel axle and i had to change sping mounts and shock mounts . 1 ton dual wheel axle spring mounts are closer together .

Re: Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
I've always heard that the narrower spring pad location was on the 1 ton cab and chassis 14 bolt's. Of course the overall width is narrower as well. I could be wrong though......

Re: Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
The closest axle is from a regular single rear wheel one ton ('73 - '87 body style). A cab and chassis single rear wheel truck has the same axle. A cab and chassis dually also has a 14 bolt, but it is not the correct width. The reason a crew cab axle will work is because all crew cabs, even the 3/4 ton crews they built in the mid to late '70s, are built on a one ton frame and suspension. The shock mounts will have to be changed on any '73 and up axle to use it in a '72 or older truck.

Why would the spread on a crew cab srw pickup be any different than a regular cab srw pickup.Aren`t the rears the same.

The chassis cab is narrower. But if you put your single wheel hubs on dually axle it will be the same width as your single axle. I've done this. There is 2" per hub difference. If anybody has two dually hubs they want to sell I'd be interested.

And if you find a 14 bolt from an early to mid 80s motor home its a direct bolt in....even the shock mounts are in the correct position.

1986 single cab & chassis 1 ton bolted right in. Just did it (well still doing it...lol), haven't mounted shocks yet.

Not from 1st hand experience,My 76 3+3 3/4 had a 4:10 14 bolt and a coworker had a reg. cab 14 bolt 3:73.We talked about wishing we had each others gears and one Saturday we jacked up both trucks.Had both rears rolled under the others truck and found out that ain't happening............I cut and he welded

Re: Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
I hung a 79 1 ton 14 bolt in my 70 yesterday bolted right in
73-91 1 ton srw will bolt directly into a 67-72 truck measuring 40-1/2" center perch to center perch. 73-91 3/4ton measures 42-1/2" center to center Last edited by 19704x4; 09-04-2009 at 08:24 PM. Reason: More info |

Re: Is there a model of 14 bolt rear that's a bolt in?
The 14-bolt rears would be bolt-ins if it weren`t for the shocks.
I learned something about the 3+3 vs regular cab frames.I`m still confused because it seems that would affect the bed mounting if they were different widths.
