People wanting to buy your truck

I was cleaning my truck and a guy ask me what I would take for it, I told him I just turned down 14k and he would have to beat that. He proceeded to tell me I was crazy and it wasn't worth that and I should've took the money and run. Where do people get off asking what you take something that's not for sale and bagging on it when tell them, sorry about the rant just kinda pi$$ed me off.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

When someone approaches you and asks what you'd take for your truck turn it around on them. Just ask them what they'd give for it. Most won't even make a reasonable offer and you can laugh at them. Most aren't buyers anyway, just being nosey.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I have had many haters (usually in L.A.) tell me how bad this or that is on my cars and I don't understand where they learned their manners. I don't bag on others rides and just don't understand why others have to do so. I assume they are jealous or just rude people in general. That's whay I sometimes actually avoid showing my Camaro at car shows in LA or Orange County. San Diego seems to be better.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I get alot of people who like my truck, but only 1 person offered to buy it. A lady liked it so much, she insisted that if i gave her my number, she would call me when she got some injury settlement money and pay me cash whatever my price was. Either she was completely insane, or i might be selling my truck in a few months. But i'd use the money to buy up two c-10's within a mile of my house. 62 i wanna call it stepside and a 68' longbed.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

A buddy of mine has a fairly nice '69 Camaro, hugger orange, four speed, all the good stuff. He gets people all the time telling him, "dude, how much do you want for your car, I gotta have your car", and he'll just say $45k and gets similar responses from people who probably couldn't afford to buy it at any price. His logic, and I agree with it, is just that if someone is actually willing, or dumb enough, to give him 45 grand for his car (it's nice, but it ain't that nice), then hell, take advantage of it.

A lot of people are jerks, unfortunately the rest of us have to deal with them.

Thats when I will start to laugh out loud, and say "come on we both know you'll never own one" with A smile on my face (I'm the nicest guy in the world but the biggest smart ass!) ...... Remember he's hoping to get something for nothing.Don't let it bother you.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I've had more then a few old cars...I've found that it's just easier to tell them that it's not for sale. Keeps them from getting arrogant and me from getting pissed.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I just ask them how much money they have. Then they get that puzzled look.

Thats when you say,...... Tell me how much you have and i will tell you if i will take it.

They normally get irritated at that. hehe

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

When I get asked, I just say "You couldn't afford it."

My truck has invalueable (sp?) sentimental value to me. It's hard to keep/take care of/love something for over 12 years and let it go.

My newer two could be had for the right price though, but noone wants them for that price

I get that once a week. Mine is no prize in looks but its all original. I tell them its not mine and I'd have to ask my son if he wants to sell it. I get their number but don't give out mine. It ends quickly that way

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

My dad has a 73 C30 camper special that he bought in 81. In the mid 90s he blew the engine up and it sat for a couple of years. It had a very bad case of the "Chevy Rust" for a truck of that year. This guy stopped about every 2 weeks wanting to buy it. Dad told him it wasn't for sale. The guys comment was"everything has a price". About the 6th time the guy stopped dad said fine, I'll take $8000 for it. The guy proceeded to say how crazy dad was to ask so much. Dads answer was "everything has a price and $8000 is the price". He never stopped again and we still have the truck and use regularly.

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I just tell them " How much do you think its worth" and when they respond with a dollar amount I tell them " Now multiply that by 10 and its yours " or I'll flat out say " It's not for sale and never will be. "

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

The general public has no idea what a classic vehicle costs to build/buy. I always daily drive my stuff and I get that always and I just say it's not for sale and never mention the value. I just recently got a '72 GMC and don't get bugged much but within the past 8 years I have had '70 Hemi orange Barracuda Grancoupe, '70 BBO AMX, '70 Challenger R/T, '69 Hemi Orange Charger and a '70 Challenger convertible. All of those were a pain at the gas station because every one wants to buy them. It really gets old and every one has a friend or relative that had one just like it back in the day and you end up hearing some story about pop'n wheelies or burying up the speedo at 150.

I just tell them the truck is not for sale. If they persist I tell them I'll sell my house or my dog, maybe both but the truck is mine until I assume room temperature. Them let them fight over it after I'm gone!

Re: People wanting to buy your truck

I have people all the time stopping in at my house asking if i want to sell my trucks. I always tell them sure everything is for sale if you have enough money. How much do you have? They never seem to want to make an offer so they usually leave. If they do make me an offer its like 500$ or something stupid like that. I tell them apparently you dont have enough money. come back when you do.
