Door reinforcements

I predict nobody will post a reply but I've been wanting to install crush beams or tubes in the doors of my 68 C10 just like new cars have to better protect against a side impact. Driving in SoCal makes me fear for my life everday on the freeways here. Not sure if this can be done and if the window regulator would hit or not. Also not sure the best way to do this to maximize protection. I can weld but don't have a lot of fabrication equipment, no tubing bender, no sheet metal brake, etc. Has anyone ever done this? Probably not, ever.

Re: Door reinforcements

I installed 1"x1" square tubing in my doors to hold the door skins in position as they wanted to "oil can" inward. The square tubing was welded in at the lower body line. I did have to trim a short piece off of the window runs at the bottom for clearance. It is a tight fit and I don't belive that you can get anything larger in the space.

Re: Door reinforcements

The truck I am building down here in Aus has to be inspected and passed by an egineer, one of the requirements is anti intrusion bars in the doors also burst proof door latches which our trucks don't have,
Unfortunatley i'm not up to that stage yet so I can't show you anything

Re: Door reinforcements

Anti intrusion bars are what I want. Sounds like 1x1 square tubing may be the ticket. Burst proof door latches sounds good, too, but how would you build that? Sounds like a retrofit from a new truck will be needed. Thanks to all.
