Gotta Vent!!!

Ok is it just me or does everyone on craigslist think their trucks are worth millions???? I have at just about every craigslist site across the US and its ridiculous what some of these people want for a rusted to the ground truck that dosent even run!!! I mean dont get me wrong these trucks are getting fewer and fewer everyday but it not like their made of gold.

Ok a little background behind my rant. I have a 71 swb that im selling. I also have a 72 that needs a roof cause of the header panel being rotted out. The reason Im selling the 71 is cause i really dont want to build a shaved truck anymore. So im looking for a 4wd to build for hunting and what not. I look all over for a 4wd with a decent enough cab to build from. Well not happening. So i look for a decent 67/68 cab and front clip cause i want to put it on a SWB 72 frame I have. Still no go. At least not for a decent price anyway. I have tons of parts if i could just find a decent cab id be on my way.

GRRRR. Sorry guys and gals just had to vent. Probably didnt make much sense either but i feel better.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

CL is one of those places you just never know what will turn up. If I had to offer any advice... post a WTB ad here on the board, or watch the threads that come up in the parts board. You will never find a better group of people that are not only going through some of the same things you are, but are also the main dealers in what you are looking for.

Good luck in the cab search!

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

I would also place WTB ad on craigslist...you will get some decent offers and you only need one. Prices on craigslist around here dirt cheap! The shipping cost would kill you however.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

I have found that many CL sellers know that their price is high but if you show up with cash in hand (even if much less than asking price) and a trailer or whatever else you need to haul that truck away, and you sweet talk them a little, they often will just give in so they can get that cash and be rid of the heap in their front yard and shut the wife up.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

I looked on craigslist for 4 months before buying my truck. You are right there is a lot of ridiculous stuff on there. But it did lead me to my truck and I got a steal on it! so I can't talk to bad about it!
and like mclairmo said I showed up with 1300 less than asking price and walked away with it..

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

I was aggressive with my 68 truck on Ebay and asked the seller to sell to me before the auction ended. I showed up with $1,500 in cash, fixed the closed and stuck choke plate on the spot and drove it home. Engine runs like new and no rust anywhere, even has a tach dash and rally rims. Seller had too many projects and never figured out that the choke on this truck was bad, which is why he could never get it started.

I agree! I read a guys thread earlier that i think fits this. Everyone else's stuff is golden but when they try to buy something you have then your crazy for asking what you are...

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

Yeah I seen that one but i wasnt sure about the 83 frame. Seems to me like theres alot of rigging involved in different body style frames. I could be wrong though.

Look out west, I am going to Utah from MO for a decent cab and stepside bed that is affordable, there are so many in Utah, Cali, Washington, Oregon that the will crush nicer stuff than I can find around here at any price.....As a matter of fact I am thinking of making monthly trips out west if I can make a little extra $$$ and pay for the gas, I like Driving.

Problem with TX is they like trucks, and these bring a premium there. Out West they do not seem to be as popular and therefore cheaper. I found a 95 % rust free 72 Jimmy tilt, tach, buckets ran and drove for 900.00 and thats not rare out there.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

Yeah I found Tons of blazers and Jimmy's and I would absolutely love to have one cause I love them but its just not practical for putting my 4 wheeler and trash in.. Ill look more over there though. I would love to find a 3/4 ton 4x4. THat is really what im after. I have a whole front cap and doors and a brand new engine and couple different trannies and transfer cases. All I need is a nice cab and frame and axles to build from. Just gotta keep looking i guess.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

monte0185 ... This is what's going to happen. Once you find your truck ... Then you will find a better truck at a better price within days. It always seems to go that way. You look and look and look...when you finally find your dream truck and then bang... They will be all over the place. Good Luck with your search.

Re: Gotta Vent!!!

I am in East Texas and I have seen some really good deals in the East Texas CL section.. I got my 70 GMC for 1300, a lot less than the original asking price. If you make it out here and find more than one you can store one at my place for a week or two.

most of my best deals have been word of mouth. Start telling everyone you know that you are looking. eventually, you will find that deal and usaully more stuff then you need.
