LOST TRUCK: no REWARD!
Back in '98 or so I did a 455 Olds conversion on my '79 Silverado diesel shortbed. Nice lil' truck with a fresh carmine red paint job and a burgundy interior. It was stolen from the guy I sold it to in S. Florida and never seen or heard of again. Always wondered if it got dumped in a canal or cut up for parts or maybe still drinkin' too much gas somewhere. It was orig. 2 tone gray/silver. C'mon, the statute of limitations has passed, fess up, what did you do with it?

Re: LOST TRUCK: no REWARD!
Its a trick. Some states don't have statute of limitations. Regardless, I did not take it.
What entails the 455 conversion?

Re: LOST TRUCK: no REWARD!
NAH, you can trust me........ HONEST!
been a few yrs. and a lot of greasy parts since I did that swap but as I recall the 455 came out of a '71 98 Olds... low compression. I put a Melling RV cam in it and an Edelbrock O4B manifold w/ a 3310 Holley--- changed the distributor to a GM HEI. Bolted right in, matched up to the 400 metric turbo.. exhaust manifolds bolted on........ seems like I had to swap some A/C, alt., ps, brackets 'cause the 455's a taller deck than the 350 based diesel. I took 1 of the 2 batteries out....... electrics were easy, didn't need the glow plug circuitry. Truck had 3.08 open rear and would just slaughter the R. Rear tire if you slapped the throttle........ BIG TORQUE. Down side was 8-10 mpg. I towed my boat and a 31' Airstream some with it and the mileage was pretty much the same-- towing or not. OH yeah, had the hydro boost power brakes, I think the power steering pump supplied the boost, worked good. The 350 diesel was a clattering, stinkin', underpowered POS......

Re: LOST TRUCK: no REWARD!
nope, left the original converter in it. drove good, don't remember anything goofy about the stall speed. I remember thinking that the truck was pretty fast but not scary fast........... had it weighed ..... 4600+lbs. I thought it was mighty heavy for a little half ton truck. I like Olds engines, I built a pretty good 455 for a '67 442 convt. ---- 4spd, 3.42 gear..... about 1000lb. less weight, LOTS MORE FUN. 'Course it was 10.5 comp. and TRW's
W-30 cam.
