1970 speaker hole on top dash
I am getting my truck ready for paint. I noticed that my speaker hole or holes I should say is different from other trucks that I owned. Other trucks that I've seen and owned had a speaker grill embeded on the top dash. Well this truck has 6 holes on top and it seems as if a grill goes on top of these holes. I am not sure if it was an option for this year or what. The holes do not seem as they were cut by someone. I will post some pics later. Has any one seen this before. And if so, where can I find a speaker grill for this truck?

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
I wanna see the pic, there was one posted on here 5 or 6 years ago that had a bunch of 1/2 inch-ish holes drilled in the dash.
All the books say that the speaker grill was there regardless of the radio options. The Blazer is the only one that did not some like this. |

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
I have a 70 and it's a bunch of parallel slots in the oval shape of a speaker. Never saw anything like that before.

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
This is unusual.Chevy used the same stuff for so long that something like this makes you wonder.I don't know but maybe it's a supplier thing. Some dashes may have been made by a different manufacturer for some reason.Or maybe it was one factory did this and others did the other.Or the factory ran short of pickup dashes and used modified Blazer dashes.Could also be a Canadian dash.Just some ideas on why the difference.

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
I went to several websites like LMC and searched for blazer parts, but nothing shows up for this particular dash.

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
I've been working on/with these vehicles for over 40 years and, before this, never seen a single vehicle with a dash cut/drilled like this.

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
I know this is dumb, but military or government, I have heard of dash mounted radios, airport trucks that were never licensed, could have been just "vent" holes. I even heard of comunications to a trailor being pulled. I just throwing out ideas. - Todd

Re: 1970 speaker hole on top dash
This truck seems as if it also had a plate over those holes. It's good to know that I am not the only one with this type of dash.
