Poly tank problem
Anyone who has installed a poly tank have this problem. Tank is collapsing on passenger side and trying to come up into frame. I have loosened the straps with no luck.

I haven't installed mine yet, waiting for filler neck I ordered. How close is that tailpipe to your tank? could it be melting the tank?

There is about 6" clearance between pipe and tank. Also i am having no trouble on drivers side.

Looks like your straps might be too tight. Or, do you have the tank vented very well? If the vent is clogged up then the fuel pump might make it colapse.

I have loosened the straps quite a bit, i hate to loosen them anymore but i may have to. It's vented ok, everytime i fill up it runs out the vent hose. There was a lot of play between the frame rails when i installed this tank, i think it has shifted towards the driver side and the passenger side is coming up between the frame, but i don't understand why the tank is warping. It has been like this for a couple months and has not gotten worse, so i don't know if i ignore it will it hurt anything. Thanks guys

Drive the crap out of it, then reach under and feel the gas tank. If it burns your hand then its melting. You think that because the tank is resting on that very outter tip its putting a twisting force on the tank and making it colaps? Like if you sit on the edge of a box then that side will colapse.

Hey LOW69 did you have any side to side play between the frame on your tank install. Do you have any tips on keeping the tank centered between the rails. Thanks

The "first" time I installed my tank, I had the straps bolted too close to the inside of the frame. What happend was the straps kept the ear on the tank from catching on the bottom of the frame. So I had to redrill the bolt holes for the straps farther out on the frame which gave me more room to move the tank side to side and more strap adjustment. I just pushed the tank to the center spot. I haven't driven my truck yet, so i don't know if it will slide or not. Probably 2 small bolts to be screwed to the frame on each side of the tank, right against the 2 ears. One on each side would stop the tank moving side to side.
