C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Well picked up a 66 C10 LWB this weekend. I6 and 3 speed on the floor. It runs and drives but of course needs quite a bit of work. So posting up the before pics before I start disassembling it.

Nice clean looking truck you got to start with. So, what are your plans?

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Thanks! Plans are old school hot rod style with modern twist. Satin black and chrome trim, bag it, power disk brakes, smoothie with white wall wheels and a v8 swap.

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
So the task for today was to rip out the interior. Removed the seat, gas tank, carpet and sound dead, and the instrument cluster.
As you can see I have some rot in the floor boards, rockers and one of the cab corners. So now my next questions is what's the best way to get a good look at all the rot? Media blast or can I get it all down to bare metal with like a wire wheel or flap disk? |

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Great looking start!
Everything looks perfectly "normal", rust wise and you'll be able to fix with some careful planning and patching. BTW: Welcome to forum of the crazies. Mac.

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Good to see progress. I feel for ya haven to use that grant steering wheel "haveing to turn the wheel really fast but not really going anywhere". I took mine off and threw it, then replaced it with a 65 one.

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Started cutting out the rockers tonight and looks like I am going to have to replace the front pillar. I think I can save the rear with cleanup and rust coverter/paint. What do you guys think??

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
They re-popped that front lower piece, Slim. Hard to tell on the back...is it solid? If so I'd clean it up and keep it.

Re: C10Slim's 66 Build Thread
Cool! It's solid just looks like crap and don't want it to get any worse. So I will clean it up a bit and paint it.
What should I hit it with? Epoxy primer? Rust covererter? Paint? I would use POR but I am on a tight schedule to get the floors and rockers in. |
