67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
I know there is a difference between the 67/68 radiator support and the 69-72 radiator support. I also know that the brackets that are riveted onto our frames are different too. I believe the 67/68 brackets have a smaller hole than the 69-72 brackets do.
Here is my questions: 1. Could u tell me the difference between the 67/68 and the 69-72 radiator supports? Pics would be best. 2. If I wanna mount a 67/68 radiator support to a 69-72 frame, what needs to be done? Do I use the 67/68 mount kit or the 69-72 mount kit? Thanks

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
while i can't answer your questions directly, I installed a 68 clip on my 72 burb, used the factory original rubber that came with the burb.

2.The thickness of the core support mounts will give you problems, if you use a 69-72 mount on a 67/68. It raises the front clip, giving alignment problems with the door to front fenders. I think the 67/68 mounts are only about 1/2". You could cut down the 69-72 mounts, reglue the metal washer, to this dimension. Don't forget that is a torqued down dimension

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
So can I put a aluminum 4 core radiator in it with a 67/68 core support?
So should I use a 67/68 mounting kit? Or do like you say and cut down a 69-72 mounting kit? Anyone else ever done this? If so, howd u do it?[/QUOTE] Yes, but there in lies the problem The 67/68 area under the rad. does not have a big enough flange to allow the rad. clearance to sit down . Minor problem, can be fixed with some cutting. If you have a 69-72 core support, look at that area, and will see it is much wider in that area. I would modify, jmho, the 69-72 since they will fit better in the larger holed bracket

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
Here's some pics. of the core support on a 67/68. My alum rad had a flange on the bottom that interfered with the core support

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
oh ok. I see. Thanks.
So in order to use a 69-72 rad support with a 67 grill, hood and fenders, what do I need to modify?

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
but, but ,but.... you didn't ask that at first!! Whole new ball game. Headlite buckets will be your biggest challenge, I'm guessing you have a chevy. You need to drill the spotwelds where the buckets mount to the core support, maybe about 6 for each bucket. Don't drill all the way thru, use a regular drill for starting the hole, (to get thru the sheet metal of the bucket) then grind the point off of a second same sized drill and use that to finish getting rid of the sheetmetal of the bucket. Then you have to make a square hole where your adjusters mount (2 per bucket). drill small hole for spring. If you are using the splash apron, that has to be worked on

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
Well thats not the issue. The issue is that I have a 67 front end that I wanna put on a 71 frame.

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
But the problem is that I am looking at getting a 69-72 frame, which has the bigger rad support mount holes.

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
I may be wrong here, but I believe with the 69-72 frame you will need
67-68 fenders 67-68 hood 67-68 rad support 67-68 grill and parts 69-72 Rad Support mounts. anyone can confirm this or tell me if youll need the earlier frame mounts |

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
well according to earlier posts, the 69-72 rad support mounts are 1/2 taller which throws off the alignment with the cab.

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
Sorry I know this is an old thread, but its still not clear to me what is needed to put a 67-68 clip on a 69-72 frame. I've searched and I've found all different kinds of answers. Some saying the mounts are lower on a 69-72 frame so you use 69-72 mounts. Others saying use the correct mounts for the rad support. I have a 68 Rad support and a 72 frame do I need;
1, 67-68 mounts? 2, 69-72 mounts? 3, Modify a set of 69-72 mounts? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
Yes you need the 69-72 mounts. match the mounts to the year model frame and you will be OK.

Re: 67/68 vs. 69-72 Rad. Supports and Brackets
Hey guys, I am dealing with this right now. I have '68 truck, but went with a new frame on my frame off restro. The thing I didn't realize till it was too late was the new frame was a '69-72. The only difference I have found is the size of the hole in the frame mount. The 67-68 had a smaller hole. I have heard that the mount rivited onto frame are higher on a 69-72, but in careful measuring between my old 68 frame and the new one, they appear exactly the same. So for my case, putting a 68 front end on 69-72 frame will be simply using the 68 core support mount, and making the hole in the 69-72 frame mount smaller. IE, welding in a washer or filling hole and re-drilling the smaller hole. Hope this helps..
