lowering question

I just lowered my 69 gmc last weekend. I did a rear flip kit and 3 inch drop spring in the front. When i first did the math the front and rear were going to be with in an inch of each other but after everthing the front sits 2 inches higher then the rear. I trying to see how much i can cut off the front springs to level it out. I want to do disk brakes with drop spindles but that is far down the road for now i just want to look level.

thanks

Re: lowering question

I dont think i would cut a drop spring. maybe cut the stockers down, and resell the 3" for a lower drop spring. Usually one coil cut is about 2 :

Here is a discussion on cutting coils:

Re: lowering question

Something sounds terribly wrong. Do you know exactly why the front is now 2 inches higher than the rear? It could be that you calculated wrong or it could be that there is something in the coil spring pockets that is shimming them up or that the front coils were installed wrong. Check everything to make sure before you start cutting coils.

Re: lowering question

A rear flip usually gets you anywhere from 4-7" of drop, ask me how I know!

Re: lowering question

when doing calculations its a good thing to take into account how much the springs have sagged over the past 40years
