Poll: Pimp my bed!

Everyone has an opinion and I'm interested in yours;

Here is the object of our attention:

The question is: what do I do with this? Stick a box liner in? Paint it myself? I'm interested in your thoughts. If you chose "Install a bedliner" let me know where you think they might be available, since I have not been able to find one for our bodystyle.

Note: I did not include a tonneau cover/hard cover as an option because of the bed mount spare sticking up. I'd like to limit the options to the $300 - $400 range.

Thanks,

K

for a daily driver... professional spray liner all the way! can also be done in colors if you don't want the "black box" look...

btw... been following your intro. post... I'm envious of your career.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

Keith-
I have never seen good result from the roll on kits, the liners trap water and rub the paint off... so my vote would be to take it in, or DIY spray on liner. The guns can be had for less $100 on eBay, and any other materials you need can be had from AutoBodyToolmart.com . This is the route I plan on going when I get my bed done. Take it easy on this beautiful day!

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

I believe SEM makes a liner that you can add your exact color to.

Good point -

I should have mentioned my anticipated usage(s):

This is my daily driver, which consist of commuting 9 miles each way to my office. I don't do very much "heavy" hauling, but I do haul stuff occasionally. The occasional air compressor (...like last night). Lots of trips to Home Depot. I could see hauling landscape materials (rocks, wood chips) maybe once more before I die. I do a fair amount of trailering, which means throwing accessories (like wood blocks, tiedowns, maybe even the trailer skids) in the back. It will probably haul a bare engine block or maybe even a complete engine assembly a few times.

You can't tell from these pictures but I am usually pretty easy on equipment. I am not characterized by banging stuff up, tearing stuff up or dragging it across the bed rails.

I think that's about it. Thanks again, everybody, for your input and keep 'em coming -

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

All of the SEM products I've used have been top notch.

What look do you like the best? Black box or?

If you do get it prof done, I would recommend LineX over Rinho. Just my experience. But they can both be pricey.

Personally I plan on trying my hand at making a tonneau cover since I haul boxes alot.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

I would either do a professional spray-in bedliner or if you have the euipment, by all means, spray in your own.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

I would first suggest LineX. I just don't like the drop-in liners. After all the work you have done, I think it would not look as good. My dad just had his new F150 LineX'd and it was almost $500 Like Tony said they have a better looking product than Rhinolining does though. It may be a little more expensive, but they do have a lifetime warranty.

My cousin bought a kit from O'Reilly that Dupli-Color has. Really pretty cheap. I don't know how well it works for a bedliner, but he sprayed the underside of his Camaro with it, and has used it in other areas as well and it turned out really nice.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

I have a spray on liner and I love it. For a daily driver, it's dam near perfect. I suggest getting the Rhinoline brand personally because every dealer sells a "conditioner" that will make it pretty again. I have to resort to tire shine sprays for shows, then power wash the bed after its over so it doesn't discolor the liner.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

A buddy of mine did Al's liner on his Samurai. Turned out great. As far as professional spray in liners, I like Reflex alot. It is not available everywhere, but it always holds up better than most. It stays more pliable and holds its gloss and colors well. If you are going to pick a pro spray in and can't find that get Line-X. Out here in the high country where the UV rays really pound stuff, Line-X seems to last longer than Rhino. Rhino just gets soooo dry and brittle feeling, and that looses the purpose of the liner in the first place.

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

I did the roll on liner on my cj7 tub (the inside of course) It lasted 4 months before pulling up. I spent hours prepping it too.

A couple friends have their truck beds LineX'd. Best stuff in my opinion...well worth the cost and its incredibly durable

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

From using plastic bed liners at work I would stay away from them.Front bed panels are the 1st thing damaged in the company trucks from hitting the brakes with a generator set or an air compressor sliding during a panic stop.Man those things are slick!

Re: Poll: Pimp my bed!

The only drawback with spray in liners is when you need to shovel rock or mulch out of the back and the shovel gets hung up instead of sliding easily like it does on steel.. that probably why I wouldn't do a spray in personally.
