alright guys the reason I'm here is because I just totaled my 01 Z71 Tahoe over the weekend and have pretty much decided that I want a 67-72 year C10 I have the option to buy my tahoe back for 1200 the point is I'm thinkin the leather seats and the 5.3 engine would work nicely in one of these body trucks. Has anyone done anything of this nature? Just how hard would doing this be?

I would like to tell you that it is easy and darn near a bolt in. But, I'm not in vavor of lying.The mounts to bolt the engine in are easy to find but then you need wiring[either have your factory wiring modded or new harness built]. Then you need a fuel system[in tank or in line] a/c compressor will have to be move or deleted. Computer program reflashed. I have done many swaps over the years and have donesome ls based ones as well. It can and has been done and there is a lot of help out there. As with any really sucessful project it takes good planning and lots of thought. Jim

It's a shame, about the tahoe, but maybe something good will come out of it.

Seats are easy. it's a pretty common upgrade.

Engine has been done, and shouldn't be too complicated, as long as you grab the entire harness and ECU, but i'll let somebody else comment on the actual nuts and bolts of that swap.


1200 bucks aint a bad deal for the engine, drivetrain, and seats, plus, if you become a subscriber, you could probably part out the rest and make a tidy little profit

Yeah pretty much everything in the drivetrain seems to be fine I got Tboned buy a honda and it flipped me so other then cosmetics the truck is fine but the body is a total loss thats why I have the option to buy it back for 1200 but it sounds like its gonna be a pretty serious task. Maybe not for some of you guys it sounds like but I would most likely go into the project with the mentality of figure it out as I go

well, if you stick around here, that mentality should pay off.

as you look/dig around the site, you'll see there's a wealth of knowledge to be had, all provided by a great group of guys (and a few gals ). I'd venture a guess, that the majority of us, got started with the same mentality

if it was me id buy it back for 1200$$....lots of info in here on that swap... and you can keep your stock location of the A/C compressor...check my sig for some threads ive made.

Does the Tahoe have the 3rd row seats? If so, you should be able to sell them and gain a quarter to half your money back.

Shoot buy it back and part out what you dont need to do the swap. Probably could make most of your 1200 back in selling the parts.

Yeah it would be nice to have those nice big leather seats in one of these trucks, anyone tried to extend the cab on one of these also?

and naa that year Z71 didn't come with a 3rd row option I do still have my 24's off of that tahoe anyone know if the lug is the same on this year truck pretty sure they are both 6lug but don't know about the size

The 67 to 70 have 6 lugs and yes it is the same bolt patern as the 6 lug tahoe.

The 71 & 72 are 5 lug.

If it were me I wouldn't put the 24's on. Just me.

I say go for the swap. Lots of power and reliability. I Don't know if you can keep your gas tank. Because I belive you need a tank/sending unit form the same time frame as the motor. Or something like that.

hey man, check out my build thread. im doing something you might be interested in. and if you decide not to try it, i will give you 1200 for it. im in huntersville, not far from you. give me a shout if you have any questions on the research, measurements, etc that ive done. heres the link to my build. itll be alot easier to do with a tahoe.
