68 C20 Camper Special on the road again.

Got it back on the road after a 13 year absence. Rebuilt original 327, new seals and filter and fluid in painted original TH400, still shifts good. Cleaned up the original paint, little polishing compound here and there. New wheels waiting to be put on, gotta replace wheel studs with metric. Gotta replace cab supports, passenger cab corner and both sides rocker panels. Gonna do this soon and repaint original colors. Also the passenger inner fender and battery box need replacing. The AC even works, but needs R12. Radio works. Removed the back patio deck, so no more parties there, sorry. Had duel exhaust put on, nice and quite. So far have 25 miles since first drive. New HEI distributer sitting in cab waiting to be put in. So much to do, but worth it. Jim

Also replaced the rams horns with Flowtech headers. The rams horns leaked everywhere, pretty bad shape from prior long term leaks. The headers fit perfect and easy to put in.

A very solid truck with nice options.Good luck on project. A little blurry, but it looks like a leaf spring rear end and 4.11 ratio options on the SPID? Also, Is it a eaton rear (round) or dana rear?

Re: 68 C20 Camper Special on the road again.

Pre-73 = Custom Camper.

Post-72 = Camper Special.

Ford = Camper Special

The use of "Custom" was the rage in trucks of the`60s,then faded away in the`70s.All the Big 3 called their upscale trucks Customs or in ford`s case,Custom Cab.Ford`s base full-size car was a Custom.In the`50s it was Deluxe.I don`t mean to be anal,and actually I`m not.It is what it is and a name`s a name,that`s all.

Re: 68 C20 Camper Special on the road again.

Sorry, Custom Camper. My bad. I'll have to actually start reading my fender badges before I log on. Anyways, got the HEI distributer in and hopefully setup right. Starts a lot quicker. Burned and had to replace one wire because it flopped over onto header before I put the looms on. Crap. Next is to get vacuum guage and tach and try and set the carb up perfect. Spent yesterday removing all the old exhaust hangers and electric pump and tubing and wiring for the custom camper pumping system previous owner had left on it. Washed out another 5 lbs of dirt from underneath first at the car wash. Much better when you aren't blinded by falling debris all the time. Jim
