Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
KC = 72 chevy 4x4
S= Six cylinder The "T" before the VIN sequence # is Tarrytown NY plant What's odd about it from your point of view?

Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
It's on a 67 C10 cab. I thought there was either a C or a K at the front of the vin, not both.
I.E. either KS147Txxxxxx OR CS147Txxxxxx not a combination of the 2. I was looking here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html And based on the above link, a 72 model would have a year code of 2, not 7- I still think this is weird. Last edited by Jim_PA; 08-10-2009 at 03:28 PM. |

Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
In 72 they used 2 letters instead of one (C or K) in earlier years
They were CC = Chevy 2wd CK = Chevy 4x4 TC = GMC 2wd TK - GMC 4x4 I'm mistaken (and dyslexic) then if yours starts "KC" as I was thinking "CK" Sorry for the confusion

Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
Actually, PA had a special "K" plate as an RPO, though I'm not sure what it was or why. I think my 71 resto pack mentions it. Perhaps you have a PA "K" plate truck?
Now I have to dig that out and research

Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
Well, it does have the auxiliary rear leafs, which I think may be the reason for the 5600 GVW rating.

Re: vin decoding help KCS147...
You have a "K" VIN and it is correct.
If you have RPO Option Z55K on the SPID (and you should, please check) then your VIN is prefixed with the K. Thus KCS147T .... Z55 is for the state of Pennsylvannia to the effect that you could have a heavy duty hauler but taxed at the class below it (ie a three-quarter ton hauling ability but taxed at a half-ton rate) if I recall correctly. I have only seen one other SPID like that but that was for a GMC.
