Gas tank sending unit gasket replacement?

I've got a slow seep out the front if I fill it too full and I want to fix it.

How does the lock cam come off of there? Will it be reusable? I just made a big order yesterday to get free shipping and now I realize I need a gasket and probably a lock cam...only a few dollars...shipping will cost more! I have called around to all the local places and they say they don't have a gasket.

Re: Gas tank sending unit gasket replacement?

I did tap on it a bit. Hit where? How? Does it just pop out of there? I won't need to pry? Any pics?

I called the place and had them throw in a gasket and lock cam on my order, so I am good there...just need to get it out now.

Thanks!

Right, just tap on one of the tabs... you basically have to un-screw the lock with a few taps from a hammer/screwdriver. When it starts moving, you'll be able to see when you have to stop tapping.

I found that the stock lock ring was a bit stiffer than the aftermarket, and re-used my original.

Re: Gas tank sending unit gasket replacement?

I remember taking mine out. Just like cdowns said, there should be 3 tabs that are on the ring. Tap them counterclockwise without too much force and donīt concentrate on one, tap them each a little bit til the ring loosens and then you can take it off the rest of the way with your hand.

The ring kind of looks like this one when you get it off.

Be careful not to make any sparks when tapping, or kaboom.

Re: Gas tank sending unit gasket replacement?

Thanks guys...got it. I will have to compare the new lock ring with the old one as far as stiffness goes. I was thinking that exact thing Mclairmo after I struck it once. I got a rubber cover for the end of my screwdriver right quick!
