BRAKE PROBLEMS
i HAVE A 72 C 20 AND THE RIGHT SIDE REAR BRAKE LOCKS UP WHENEVER I APPLY THE BRAKES. i HAVE REPLACED THE SHOES AND WHEEL CYLS. THE BRAKES ARE ADJUSTED AND HAVE BEEN BLED PROPERLY I AM OUT OF IDEAS. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY?

Few questions..
Does it lock immediatly or does it take a bit of driving for it to start happening. Jack up the rear and verify that BOTH rear brakes are working and apply at about same pedal distance (you'll need someone helping you) Make sure your parking brake is free. It does it as soon as I drive out of the driveway. I have already jacked it up and hit the brakes. it would lock up immediatly. I have tried backing it off and it dont lock up for a while then after a few miles it starts doing it again. I have checked the parking brake when it was up in the air and it isnt dragging at all. I am out of ideas.

It's fixable.. dont worry. Just trying to get as much info as possible here.
Did both wheels stop at the same rate? best way is to have someone pressing slowly on the brake with the engine off. You'll be out at the wheels turning the left then the right wheel. Note where the pedal is when each wheel stops. Are they stopping at the same point? almost forgot.. When your driving and you hit the pedal, is the pedal in a normal height? or does it seem unusually low? ------------------ Pictures and more... Email me '71 LWB 350/350T, PS/PB Special options? I will have to try it tomarrow when I can get my brother over here to help and see where on the pedal each one stops. As for the pedal it is nice and tight.

Your drum might be out of round. You should be able to test that by seeing fit the shoes drag more in one spot than they do it a different area of rotation.

Ive had trouble with my drums as well, they squeak all the time. Ive had it to the shop atleast 3 times for brake work and it comes back just as normal as can be, but slowly goes back to what it was before, almost like they temporarily fixed it. I have bled, replaced parts, new master cylinder and corrected vaccuum to power brake booster. Parking brake is just fine, im just tired of the squeakiness. Any ideas on mine? I can dig up the info on what ive had done if it would narrow down the probs. Thanks!

68Custom, you don't say whether the squeaking occurs only when you apply the brakes, just driving normally, or both.... if it's during braking only, best bet is to start with freshly turned drums and fresh shoes... new shoes can get slick with old drums and tend to squeak...

OH YEAH forgot that part, well yes its occuring while applying the brake. Fresh drums and shoes eh? I think (ill have to check on back at the records) that i have had that work done already. Ill get back on that as soon as i can get to it, thanks!
