Removing original fuel tank

I need some advice on removing the fuel tank from my 72. I think I am making it harder than it is. How can I drain it before removing the lines and whatnot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, siphon as much gas out of the tank as you possibly can. Then on the passenger side under the truck, there is a short rubber section after the hard line from the tank. That small rubber section attaches to another hard line that runs along the frame rail to the front of the truck. Simply loosen that small rubber section and drain the rest of the fuel. You probably will not get it all but you'll get most of it to easily remove the tank from the cab. Good Luck.

there is no need to get every last drop out and it just adds more work.
Siphon the gas out with a hose, remove the seat from inside the cab, then disconnect the wire on the sending unit and the fuel line. Remove all the bolts from tank to cab, top and bottom, and pull it out.
You will have to fight the rubber grommet, and going back in you'll be fighting twice as hard, but other than the grommet, it is simply that easy.

*EDIT*
just saw you have a 72, there's a couple other lines, look to the passenger side top corner and disconnect that hose, and there should be a return line in there somewhere.
