how do I remove windshield wipers?
I have officially begun my ground up resto- pulled the hood/fenders/inners off tonight (it was a three beer job) but couldn't get the wipers off. How do I get them off? I saw a little tab but the wiper didn't budge when I messed w/ the tab.
thanks, Paul |

The wipers are press fit on. If you don't care much about a couple of scratches in the paint around either side of each wiper, I would suggest using the "L" shaped end of a small pry bar or the claws of a hammer to work the wiper arms off. Don't pry too hard, you may bend the cowl slightly, just pry from side to side on each wiper, they should come off.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You have to pull the tab first!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy above used force obviously. Use a small screwdriver to pull the tabs COMPLETELY out then the wipers will come off straight away (it taks some force) I am assuming with the guy above somebody had already removed the windshied wipers and didnt replace the tabs. Trust me the little tabs WILL come out. Take your time and do it right, youll be happier then just using brute force

Sorry, none of the trucks that I have or have worked on had any type of tab to remove. So that was how I understood how to take the wipers off.

DUNBASS????
fish on the grill??? the tab trick should be correct, just pop them out with a small screw driver, careful though....if I remember corectly those little clips will fly out and get lost quick. the wipers should just take a nudge or to to pull off after that.

Whoa, folks. I don't recall any "tabs" on my wipers.
What you have to do is to pry them off of the wiper shafts. There is a tool made specifically for that. It has two flat pieces on the end of the plier-type handles, and when you insert it between the bottom of the wiper and the cowl, you squeeze the handles and the wiper pops off. The tool is less than $10 bucks and it works. There ain't no tabs on these trucks. The 88 and up.....well, THEY have tabs.

I'm with chevloray, I have had 7 of these trucks and have never seen any of these "tabs?" Could anyone post a pic of them? I have always pryed mine off by placing a rag under a prybar and then easing(not using brute force) them off. And I have never heard any clips pop out?

I tried pressing the tabs up and down, couldn't do anything witht he wiper though-I wasn't applying too much force to the wiper b/c I guessed they would come off easier. thanks for the replys guys. my wiper arms have 'trico' on them, is it possible some fo the aftermarket wiper arms have tabs and others don't?

I've seen them both ways some have tabs and some don't. I think the ones without tabs may have been broke off already.

Mine don't have tabs, I just wrap a big screwdriver in a rag and lever the arm off.

Trico??? You are trying to get the wipers off of the arms, aren't you??
You don't need to remove the wiper blades from the arms. You just need to remove the wiper arms from the shafts. I told you how in my earlier post. As far as changing blades, well, that depends on which refills you have (you said Trico). I have ANCO. Makes no biggee. IF you are planning to do a restoration, you are a loooooooooooong way from needing blades OR refills. Just get/borrow/buy the tool that I described above and remove the arms.
