Anyone here work on wind turbines possible new job! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Thinking of taking a job transfer back to my home state of Iowa servicing wind turbines for General Electric. I currently work for G.E doing repair work on electrical systems for locomotives.
Basically the new job duties include maintaining the generators and the associated power grid. After the first phone interview it was mentioned due to my education background, electrical engineering, the job could probably go from a field position to office position overseeing the area.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience working on wind turbines, love it hate it, possible future career paths?

Thinking of taking the job because I miss the peace and quiet I had in Iowa plus wind energy is really booming for G.E and I see it being a great stepping stool.

I think you'll make more money in the wind turbine business, and of course that means more money to spend on truck stuff

Kinda funny, a about 6 years ago or so I was at a career fair at Kansas State (where I went to school....BSME) and there was a GE booth there. I specifically asked them about wind turbines and they gave me a blank stare like they didn't know what I was talking about. I have always thought it would be a good (and growing) career area to work in.

It's also kinda funny cause I'm now looking to moving back to the Kansas area to be closer to my wife and I's family.

Never worked on one before, but I did watch Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs go with a crew to fix one. Wasn't that bad just really high in the air. and tight spaces to get into certain places to repair the generator. Thats my .02 worth

simply put.. i have worked for and with a few companies in the wind industry..
DO NOT PASS THE OPPURTUNITY WITH GE PERIOD!
they are an incredible company to work for...
and it''s hard as hell to get in..
