I just bought this tilt out of a 72. I'm putting it in my 70. My ? is the indacator looks differant and I dont know what a 72 looks like, does this look right? Also there is a grey wire that I understand is the indacator light, my 70 has the fiber optic that comes from the dash, which one do I use, grey wire of fiber optic?

Hook up the gray wire and use that. The fiber optic is for a reg column only. Your indicator is correct for a tilt. You are just missing the white plastic "pointer". I understand that the pointer has recently been made obsolete by GM. Somebody here probably has a stash and they will sell you one. Although I don't know if it is worth doing. They always seem to break just from the act of shifting. Not one of their better ideas.....

I put the same tilt in my '67. You can hook up the grey wire to you instrument lamp circuit. F.Y.I. - The light bulb is located underneath the indicator housing. The fiber optic won't work with that column.

Talking

I would recommend that you get the assembly instructions as the tilts can be time consuming and difficult. Working on a tilt column is very difficult and requires a lot of patience. If you have never had one apart, I would suggest getting help on it.

I start by removing the levers, indicator, indicator light,(green shade, shield, and bulb), and flasher button. The round metal
cover can be removed using a screw driver and tapping on the base to drive it off. Take care not to damage it as it is just pressed on.

Then I remove the turn signal wiring cover and turn signal with the wiring. Next, I remove the tilt spring and trunions. Once the trunions are out, the steering shaft is removed by pulling it out while releasing the tilt, (screw the tilt lever back in for this step).
Youwill want to make sure the bottom flange has been removed prior to sliding out the shaft.

I remove the lower bearing retainer clip, and bearing housing with the bearing.

Next, I remove the upper shift tube die cast retainer which is held on with (4) 5/16'" headed screws. This exposes the shift tube and I remove the clip and washer. At this point the shift tube can be removed by driving it out of the shift bezel. I recommend a good fitting tool for this,as it is easy to damage the upper part of the shift column. Once the column is clear of the shift collar it can be removed as well as the shift collar.

Reassembly is extremely difficult and I don't believe that I can describe it with words. Reassembly is not simply"reverse the above instructions". I have rebuilt dozens and they don"t seem to get easier.

Jim

And they were all black in these trucks, regardless if the rest of the int color.
As for your fiber optic cable, they are not made in reproduction...if you don't mess it up, you can sell it fairly quickly.
