Shift knob is gone
Well, after thinking what I wanted to do with the knob on the column where the shifter was, after installing my floor shifter, I came up with a pretty good idea.
I thought, since I have a ratchet shifter and can slam it into gear, I needed a shift light so I won't have to look at the tach. What'cha think?

Thats pretty sweet bro! how did you get it to screw into the shifter bracket? I like that polished aluminum cover too. Where'd you get that? (Boy, I'm just full of questions, aren't I?)
P.S. Do you have any pics of your floor shifter? |

I cut the shifter knob off the column so it would be flat. The I filed it smooth and painted it black to match the column. The shift light has a little mounting bracket that covers the hole thats left. I run the wire through the hole and down inside the bottom column sleeve. Clean install with now wires showing anywhere.
I haven't tried it out yet because I have no distributor in the engine. I have a MSD Pro-Billet HEI and it's at MSD getting checked because of a buzzing noise I was having with it. I also run my damn battery down when I left the door open for a couple days. The billet pieces I bought at http://www.trucknvans.com/billetacc/ Yes, I have plenty of interior pics. http://www.73-87.com/photos/interior.htm |

I know I have seen pictures of your interior before and I can't remember, so I just got to ask, where's your radio?

Mike, Looks good nice local.
Have you had any issues with sunlight blinding you when it's behind you or at an angel and reflecting off the insturment bazle?? I was considering the polished set but with the fla. sun as bright as it is i'm just not shure. Maybe it's not as big of a prob. in N.C. |

Bruce,
don't know yet. I've not driven it since installing it. My distributor is at MSD getting checked. Been doing a lot of these little things I've been meaning to get done. I'll let you know how it does in the sun when I get to drive it. Oh, and the sun is just as bright up here as it is in Florida.

I've got $250.00 in everything for the wheel. The wheel, billet hub, billet horn button and all. The wheel comes with this tacky looking black rubber hub, but you could use it and not have to buy the billet one. But, you will have to buy a horn button.

Quit Mike your making me want to spend more and more $$$ I don't have Sweet setup on the tach light. I think once you start getting all the items set up you need a page just made for all the little tricks you've done to help everyone else out.

Hey, that's an idea. A tricks page. I could put mine, plus more from all of you folks. This would be a neat addition to my site. This way, people could have one place to go for all the neat little things we all do to our trucks. Sure would be nice.
I think I'll put a questionaire on the main page asking for tips from everyone. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the idea Brandon.

If you're slamming gears and moving faster than the speed of light? How can you see the shift light come on?
Nice job Mike. |
