FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Yo! Back again with my newly fabricated cab-corner speaker panels and new Kenwoods!
These panels were EASY to fab with AC plywood, scrap bracket material, and Crutchfield speaker fabric!! Each has a half round plywood top that is difficult to see: I decided to place two 6.5" 3 way Kenwoods in each since they actually have more surface area than a set of 6x9s. The Kenwoods are 92db, 35-22,000 Hz response, 40W RMS, and 240W peak each. Here's a pic of the assembled panels: These recess nicely into the cab corners enough to be able to still access the area behind the seat. I'm using 1.5" thick foam rubber behind the speakers in each corner to dampen rearward directed sound. Took a while to create paper templates, and many trails to form the outer edges of the plywood, but they fit like a glove now! Thought that others might be interested in trying this with their trucks,...cost me nearly nothing. Todd.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Geeze, dammitmitchell, WHAT is going on in that avitar of yours?!!
Thanks, all! This was FAR too easy, and cheap, for it to go without letting others know. I've seen a steel 6x9 panel screwed, or tack welded, into place, but these panels only require two mounting holes in the inner cab corner steel where it wraps around the corners (no holes through to the outside), and I feel that it's appearance (speaker fabric) is better. More pics after installation, and then on to enlarging the hole in the dash for the Kenwood Excellon CD/reciever with front USB for my iPods. Sorry to have not posted in such a long time, but I've been running underground electrical to my small garage,...now it has 70a 240v service!! Todd. Thanks again, Todd.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Sure wish y'all could hear it when I'm done!
I'll get it, but I've got to figure out what drill (I have three, and other possibilities) I can get in there behind the seat to drill those two holes without tilting or removing my seatback. Got the seat full forward now. All else fails, it's coming apart for this! Thanks, Todd.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Cool panels Todd!!
I got some of bigblock73's metal brackets....they attatch very similar to yours.... I had a hell of a time trying to mount them with the seat in, but it was super easy with the seat out....the removal of the 4 seat bolts turns the near impossible in to gravy I also used some self drilling self taping hex head screws. using a cordless drill with a hex bit worked well.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Yo! Got enough room to drill with my shortest (once I've marked the spot and removed the panel) without lowering the back of the bench seat,...just finished the panels last night.
Should have them in tomorrow AM with speakers to follow. Pics ASAP. Todd. P.S. Wife JUST went to bed early,...maybe I'll have 'em in tonight!!

Cool, but wood doesn't rattle or resonate.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Todd, they look great! Maybe we can get you out to the get together we are all trying to plan for September and I can see & hear them in person. Oh and I think you need a new smaller drill for this occasion.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Cool, get them done. And then check the CO board about the get together.
P.S. It may be a little more than that I am on south end of town.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
you can also use MDF and seal the crap out of it with some laquer or polyurethate based sealer..
then after a day of drying (for nice thick coats) you can "underbody" coat said panels to match said interior flooring options.. waiiit a minute.. i just got an idea for Project FULLTIME DAD.. (FTD) .... yess.. yess yess..... p.s. todd.. my avatar is because im married to an accountant.. it's also my computer background..

God! I thought it looked like you were paying a female to look up her dress!
(I'd do that for some women,...cost dependant, of course) Sorry. Todd.

Neither do sheet metal ones when made right.

Re: FRANKENTRUCK stereo phase I
Yo! Correct bigblock73 and joe231,...sorry.
Actually, the same goes for ANY speaker box if built, or installed poorly no matter what it is made of. And, typically, speakers in vehicles are surface mounted into steel body panels. Got the two mounting holes drilled (that was EASY!,...sure didn't expect it to be!) in the wee hours. Just now back up, the alcohol has pretty much worn off by now, and I'm nearly ready to hit it again! Thanks for all the nice complements! Todd.
