Am I happy or sad?

I just discovered the 350 engine in my truck has 305 heads. What is the advantage/disadvantage or reason ???

Thanks

Re: Am I happy or sad?

Most of the 305 heads had smaller combustion chambers. Effectively raising your compression ratio. Unfortunately most of them wont flow enough for you to ever see a performance gain. Cant imagine it hurting anything if you are just driving around.

I agree they don't flow as well, but they are usually HIGH Compression heads. I have had them on my 350 for several years and have not had any trouble, in fact I kind of like them.

Re: Am I happy or sad?

you must be happy. you have small chambers shrouding the flow in and out, small ports keeping large amounts of air at bay, high compression making you use costlier fuel, and thinner casting to shave weight.

I am extremely happy with my ultra low-buck 1992 TBI heads.

Re: Am I happy or sad?

I have heard of people doing this, but usually you have to have larger valves installed. Without looking at your heads, it's difficult to know if the person who installed them put larger valves in. But usually they do this to increase compresson.

oops haha thinking backwards tonight
flow bad with high compression to burn cleaners or something ,tiny CC right? like 58 cc cause the pistons on most 305's are pretty far down in the hole at TDC? all i know is that they don't flow well haha

Re: Am I happy or sad?

305 heads should be good to about 4000 RPM, so its not that bad of thing

It does raise your compression quite a bit, like to 10 or 11:1
So you may need to run premium to keep it from detonating

Combustion chambers are 58cc & they have 184 intake / 150 exhaust valves
