Question concerning a 67 burb

Hello and thanks for all the help. I found another 67 that is really nice. The question I have is the dealer says it has the original 350 4bb motor in it. I didn't think they came out with the 350, did they? Just wanted to make sure.

Well thats what I thought too and when I mentioned it to him, he sent a picture of the sticker underneath the hood with the 350 engine written on it, and the 350 emblem on the fender. The picture doesn't look like it though. Now, I know that they could have just stuck the 350 emblem on it if they were fixing it up, but why would someone do that?

Looks to me like someone just put a bunch of later model parts in there.
Obvious things jump out at to me, and others may chime in or despute me.

1. The alternator on a 67 is mounted on the driver side.
2. The intake, carb, air cleaner, valvecovers are aftermarket.
3. The radiator is different.
4. The heater hose to radiator is not 67.
5. I don't think 67 had brake booster braces.
6. Fan shroud looks to be later model.
7. The heads have bolt holes in the front of them. 67 did not have those.
8. The steering shaft looks newer than 67.
9. The driver side ram horn manifold should have a boss for the alternator to mount to.
10. The power steering pump looks like an early 70's model.

I'm no expert, and I'm going by my 68 which I know pretty well. Those are the things that jumped out at me.

It's no biggie that someone did this stuff, in fact it's done all the time. Just sounds like your seller is a little mis informed is all.

Can't tell by just looking at it.

See if you can get the numbers off of it, they will be under where the alternator is now on that thing.

Those numbers will give you an idea of it's age, but won't tell you what size the engine is.

I would just plan on it being just about anything really.

there are some other clues to look for, like how big is the harmonic balancer and if it has any machined chunks out of it.

If it's under an inch wide, it could be a small journal 327 or a 283. Those are just clues, and I have been fooled on going off of those clues.

Give it some time and someone else will give you some more guidance on here.

I agree with what Vector said. Also the blue paint on the engine block is indicative of 80's engines if I'm not mistaken. Be careful, it could be a 305 also. Interestingthey putthe points back on it though. Is he sure it's a 67? If that isn't ram assisted power steering, then check to make sure someone didn't add powersteering to it without the frame notch. There were a few late 67 trucks that had the frame notch and power steering, contrary to popular belief. Remember also that the front clip might have been replaced, off of a 350 truck, so the emblems might be original to another truck. Hope this helps!

I would definitely pass if he is going to call it a "custom made" 3 door suburban. Judging by the sidemarker lights (not present on a 67), the door panels if original (not the same on a '72) and the roof rack (if original) and possibly 5 lug wheels, I would call it a '71. But don't quote me.

but then again, if the body is in good shape, 3950 might not be a bad price. Walk in with 3k and I bet you could drive off with it.

i agree with all the others, and something not mentioned in this thread, a 67 wouldn't even have engine badges on it, that started in 69... like the 350 option.
