That dump truck grabbed my attention.I guess you`re hinting it has a 427?That sure looks like a nice one.

the GMC has alot of class, with or without the cap.It looks right on there.

My money says that old dumper has a 427 judging by the vents on the side of the hood.

The badges on the hood read 427 and apparently it's still in there. I hear it has air brakes and the whole 9 yards.

Re: Camper Top!!!

Is there a market for era specific camper tops? I mean, shipping aside... ( I hear they weigh a lot). Is it a swap meet thing, personal preferences etc? What are they usually worth? tail-gate eliminators worth more or less?

I think its a preference thing...........I doubt there is enough money in the sale of one to deal with the pure magnitute of hauling them around!

Most old used camper tops....especial period correct ones dont bring more than a few hundred dollars.....We have paid a combined total of $200 for the last three toppers I have been involved in bringing home including the one on the orange truck above.

Re: Camper Top!!!

The topper that came on my truck when I got it was pretty decent looking. I recently slapped it on for a camping trip, since I didn't want to mess around with setting up a tent this year.

It honestly looked alright, especially with the white roof. Just like yours. I dig it man.

Re: Camper Top!!!

The one my we had on the 69 3/4 ton when I was growing up was a Vacationeer tail gate eliminator camper shell. It stuck up above the cab roof by about 8 inches. We lost about 1 1/2 MPG with the shell on due to wind drag and weight. It was so heavy (I believe it weighed around 500 lbs), to get it off the truck, my dad built these bed high saw horses out of 2 x 8's. He would get in the truck and lift half the shell on his back at a time and we'd slide the horses under the shell.

They were practical as all hell though! We had a couple poles in the back so that we could prop the whole back of it open like a canopy. It was great for camping, etc.

Re: Camper Top!!!

We picked this one up local from a friend...it was more or less sitting around the yard not being used, and the idea is to take the lady friend camping and have a place other than the cab for my hairy four legged friend. We are pretty sure that this is off a '73 long bed, the fit isnt perfect, but its great for what we do which is pretty much sit around and talk about how tough it is. I've gotten more compliments on my truck this week than I have in the last 2 years! Weighs about 100 lbs or maybe less and I really wouldnt be able to tell it was back there if it werent for the 'not so heavy duty drop springs'.

Re: Camper Top!!!

My cousin put lumber rack on his '68, so the shell had to go.
He souvenired it to me & it only took me about 2 years to get it on my truck.

As far as I'm concerned, they just "look right" on these trucks.
But that's just me; opinions may vary.

If the dump is a 427 truck then it also has a tach dash in it

I have to agree...I like the Shell Toppers on the LWB trucks. They just look right.
