If this rides a rocking don't comma knockin?

Well, that's at least what my ride is sounding like right now...like there's some squeeky coils in the hand me down bed...if you get my drift. So, I was first thinking the squeeking sound...which in all honesty is louder then just a squeek was from my shocks. As I'm sure they're pretty old. I went to the part store and without looking at my truck the salesperson suggested it might also be my ball joints needed greased.

So, if it's my shocks...I am pretty sure I can change those on my own...as for the ball joints needing greased..I'm not sure what I would need to do. Are there any guides or tips? I looked in the FAQs and only found tips on removing the A arm and Ball joint.

Some ball joints have a grease zerk on them. Just put the grease gun on and give a couple squirts. Not too much though. While you are under there see if your U-jionts have grease zerks too. There is a whole slew of front end parts that are greaseable. Someone smarter than me will chime in soon.
As far as the squeak, can you have someone bounce the truck while you walk around it and listen?

Ok, i'm a novice so what is exactly a "zerk" if it's that easy then yes I'll go load up on grease and get a gun and do that tomorrow. I did also have somone rock the truck back and forth and it did sound like it was coming from in side the front left wheel well, but I couldn't narrow it down anymore then that.

if you get your oil changed at an oil change grease monkey place, they should grease the chassis and suspension while their down there...you could ask/tell them to do it to make sure...

A "zerk" is simply a fitting or a "nipple" that you snap the grease gun onto.

Pics are sooo much better for explainations. Look at the fitting on the bottom.

Haha yes I totally agree. I should be able to handle that then. Pretty much just fill it up until it starts oozing out I assume?

That is correct. You should have several of the located on your front suspension "pivot" points. Pump, ooze, and wipe. Pretty simple process.

Just so you know you got them all, there should be 19 fittings that need to be greased on the front end.

19 fittings? Off the top of your head, can you provide a quick list of these? I'm coming up short on finding 19 fittings.

Is the noise coming from the driver or passenger side?

It's coming from the driver side....almost like a creaking. When I drive it keeps making the sound whether I hit big bumps or little bumps...but it is worse with bigger bumps

Re: If this rides a rocking don't comma knockin?

I had a random tingy metal/pop noise come from the front passenger side suspension area this weekend. If you really push on the front passenger side fender/core support, you can make the noise repeat again and again. Damn this truck gets me frustrated!

I will also try to grease everything down...I hope it helps. Let me know if the grease helps you out.

David

The sway bar and body mounts can squeak too...

Re: If this rides a rocking don't comma knockin?

Think greasing it down solved part of my problem. There's now only a creak when the truck moves side to side.....but that could be from just about anything I'm assuming...but the main problem seems to have gotten fixed..I wasn't able to get to all the zerks because the first grease gun I bought was broke and it had the flexible rubber hose, and the new one didn't.

Re: If this rides a rocking don't comma knockin?

Sadness....my truck is back to squeeking. Either I didn't fill it up with enough grease, or it's leaking out or that's just not the problem. But it sounded fine last night and this morning, but driving it home from work it was back to being annoying.

This sucks. What do you think it could be? When do you hear the noise? Is it on take off, driving at speed, or stopping at a light?

Yeah, I don't know. I got under there again and re greased the zerks and my best guess is it's a shock that's just had it. So, trial and error.

Re: If this rides a rocking don't comma knockin?

Are you sure the squeaking is coming from the front? Check your rear springs and see if the plastic isolators between the spring leafs have worn away. When they wear through or go missing you can get squeaky spring syndrome.

If you need new ones, don't buy them online for $5.99 a piece! Go to a spring shop, they are only like $0.50 each!
