New to the Site, and new truck. Pics
Just joined, glad I found a good forum for these trucks. This truck was purchased new by my great grandfather in 69'. My son when I am done restoring it will be the proud owner of this soon to be 5 generation owned 1969 Chevrolet. Grand Pa Bruces's great great grandson will be rolling in this thing someday, he does have a few years to go being 7 now, but I will let him cruise it on the farm for sure before then.
It is a very low option 69', it came with a 307 when new, and three on the tree. It has a 350 in it now, and turbo 350. I plan on taking the shifter off the floor where it is now, and putting it on the column. I want the stock look. It will be a frame off resto I believe, and I plan on keeping it as a long bed 1/2 ton. No major changes happening besides a color change. It is sporting the original paint, and not to much rust being an original California truck. The truck according to my uncle has 500-600k miles on it, and is on it's 3rd engine. Granda Pa Bruce who bought it new wore out the column shift and my uncle and dad put a 3 on the floor shifter on it for him. He wore that out, and they put in another. My Grand Father when he got it, put the turbo 350 in it, and new floor shifter for that. My uncle Greg pulled the trans later on it, rebuilt it, and then put a 300 horse 350 engine in it, and that is what it has today(low Mileage). I will be putting it back to a column shift, but it will stay an auto trans for sure. The wife will not drive a 3 on the tree, and the clutch linkage etc is long gone! We have it in the garage now, took out the interior already. Bed, fenders, doors, and hood coming off this week. We are not wasting time on it. Not sure how long till we have our frame off done on this, but it will look like it did when it rolled from Fremont so many years ago. Slightly different, but close enough to stock that not many will notice the differences. This truck did only come with three options from the factory, heavy rear springs, front stabilizer bar, and amp/oil gauges. Power steering was added about 20 years ago. It will be two tone pale yellow, and white when done. Probably will change the interior color from blue to black to. I am happy to have gotten this family truck. I'll be honest, this is my first Chevy truck, I have been driving American since birth, but this is my first Bowtie truck, or anything for that matter. I have always loved this body style, and thought I someday would have a short bed 4x4 one of these, not a long bed 2 wheel drive. I am more happy with this one being from my grand pappy! That is my son in the pic, the future generation 5 owner of this truck. I wonder how many trucks out there have been handed down that many times? Probably only a few of them for sure. When it is done, I think I might call GM and tell them our story. http:// http:// Last edited by DragRag; 08-24-2009 at 01:57 AM. |

Re: New to the Site, and new truck. Pics
The wheels are rally wheels. They are painted white though instead of silver, my uncle painted them and put them on it when he got it. They are coming off though, and stock steel wheels and center caps are going on it, when I find them that is. Quick question to. Why is our truck a 6 lug, and a I see some of them are only 5 lug? Just a thought, thanks for the warm welcome. We will be here looking for info regularly for the resto I am sure.

Re: New to the Site, and new truck. Pics
the 67-70 1/2 ton rigs such as yours were all 6 lug. GM changed to the 5 on 5 bolt circle starting with with the 71 1/2 ton trucks.
welcome to the board from Shawnee, KS!!
