1 Ton Spindle Swap

I have a 1968 GMC 1 Ton 2WD and was wondering if I could swap newer 73-87 spindles onto my truck and get disc brakes and the larger wheel studs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1 Ton Spindle Swap

I don't think there wpould be a problem. The front suspension on these trucks is basically the same from 67-87. The only differences could be the size of the ball joints and tie rod ends. I also seem to remember the frame being a bit different where the steering box mounts. You might be able to swap just the spindles, but it could turn into swapping everything. If you check with a parts store, and the tie rod ends and ball joints are the same part numbers then I would think you could just swap in the spindles.

Re: 1 Ton Spindle Swap

I would bet that the entire cradle + tie rod/drag link will swap just like on the 1/2 tons.
