Stovebolt six identification
Gentlemen,
My Chev 1/2 ton pickup looks like it has a rebuilt engine installed. The nameplate says Forburg 235. I'm not sure it is really a 235 since the sheet metal coverplate on the sparkplug side extends to the top of the head, which I thought was only done on the 216s. My reason for wanting to pin down the engine type is that I need to replace the failed electric fuel pump with a mechanical and the 216 and the real 235 have different pump part numbers. can anyone set me straight on this? Thanks, Bill |

What is the block casting number? And pictures might help.

Re: Stovebolt six identification
Nick,
The number behind the distributor is: JBA23603. The Forberg nameplate is almost impossible to read except the rebuild date (1988) and the crank undersizes. There is another number that looks like 231, but the title is not readable. Any help? Again, I thought that the side coverplate on the 235 exposed the head and plugs. Any idea if there would be a problem with exchanging fuel pumps between engine sozes? Bill |

Re: Stovebolt six identification
Looks like my engine is a 216. Will the same mechanical fuel pump fit both the 216 and the 235, or are different pumps required?
