Painting the truck....Have some questions.

I am just about to paint my truck. I have already purchased the paint (I ordered more than I needed). I still have to get some epoxy primer, but have no idea how much I need. I am going to paint the entire truck. I have 2 gallons of paint....any idea on how much primer I will need?

it totaly depends on theextent of the work... are you going to bare metal all around. start with a gallon. go from there

Re: Painting the truck....Have some questions.

If you want a real smooth "Show car finish" you'll want to apply more than one coat of primer and sand between each coat (and guide coat) which will probably necessitate more than one gallon of primer. Are you painting the inside of the bed? Are you pulling the bed off of the truck to paint? How about the engine compartment? Interior? That takes more primer. In my experience, one gallon of paint is just barely enough to paint one long bed fleetside truck. BTW, Been to Coeur d'alene. Sure is a pretty place.

Re: Painting the truck....Have some questions.

I am going to use it as a truck so I don't need a show finish. I will have 2 gal and am going to take at least the cab to bare metal. I am going to paint the inside and outside of the cab engine bay and bed (wood bed so only the four sides). Do you think 2gal will do it?

Re: Painting the truck....Have some questions.

Depending on the mix or the primer I would assume so..
