gas in charcoal canister?

I have a 85 chevy custom deluxe shortbed with a v-6. Its all original inside and out and owned it since 94. Sorry to say that its been sitting up outside. I start it up and drive it around the block and then park it. The last time i started it up was about 3 months ago. I never had a hard time starting it up before until now.
It looks like i might have flooded it, never happen before. It stared up and was running very rough. I noticed that the bottom of the charcoal canister was dripping gas. I blew the top of the carb with air trying to rush the gas to evaporate. The gas is probably to old, and will the 100 degree heat effect the 3 month old gas in the tank? I Got it started and the roughness eventually dissapeared. I drove it around for 6 blocks and ran ok. It was knocking and pinging when i tried to turn it off..bad gas, right. I let it set up for 3 hours and tried to start it again..and it wouldn't.
My question..why it the canister overflowing with gas?...I know that my question will be answered by a very knowledgable group of chevy owners/friends,thanks....got to get running or my wife wants me to get rid of my truck.

Re: gas in charcoal canister?

sounds like the float in the carb is stuck. wait a while and next time you try to start it, hold it to the floor while cranking. dont pump it.

or buy a new carb/ rebuild it.
