What's it worth? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
New member...hey guys.
Been looking long and hard for an honest 70 short, fleetside, wood, for going a year. Found one, 84K, date matching, honest spid, trim tag and original sale documentation in glove box. Nevada truck, no rust, orig paint, everything works. Orig AM radio still works, In dash tach, starts, runs and drives like new. Automatic, leaks a lot. Only thing noticably not original is the steering wheel itself but the column is perfect. Out of buyer fatigue, I chased the price to 9K. Glad to have it, but not sure if I am behind the fiancial curve or not? As a related matter I am having trouble finding the production numbers for this truck. 7dguy Last edited by 7dguy; 09-24-2010 at 04:04 PM. |

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
The way you describe it, sounds like a good geal. If there is no rust at all (which I doubt, because it sounds like a miracle), all you have to do is repaint it and change the trim which is not a huge deal. Congratulations!
And one more thing, these trucks are toys, honestly. When buying a toy, who cares about the financial efficiency?

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
Why are you concerned with the financial curve? It sounds like you are going to keep this truck as part of your family, so what does it matter if you are not looking to re-sell it?
It is only worth what you are willing to give for it.

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
Having been there I know how you feel. When I bought my Jimmy I started a thread buyers remorse. Whats done is done and move forward. Sounds like you have a nice truck. If it truly is rust free you are ahead of the curve. Rust repair can be either costly or time consuming (plenty of pictorials and build threads ). Big block another plus.
Get some pics and enjoy your truck, oh and welcome to a great resource! |

Welcome from Texas!!!
I guess I'll be the one tell you...... You got screwed, amigo!!!! You'll be spending a lot more before you're through, especially if you pass it to your kids. However, it sounds like you've been looking for this special truck and now you have it. Good luck and keep us posted. |

right off the bat you screwed yourself, you bought a vehicle at good guys, you can typicaly buy the same thing for 2/3 the cost on the street or internet.
sounds like a clone or a pimped up project, if it has the spid sheet it will list things like the tack dash and trim package. |

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
When you decide that you want a certain truck, of a certain year, with certain options, you really start to narrow down whats out there. As you said, you looked for a year. Every year that goes buy, this old stuff gets harder to find. I say if you found what you wanted and are happy with it then all is well. We all would like to stumble across our perfect dream vehicle sitting in some guys barn, a get it for a song. If you are willing to spend a lifetime waiting, it may happen. Most of us aren't that lucky! LOL!

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
If it truly is a factory Big Block short bed with zero rust then it was a fair price, IMO. Not a great deal but a decent and fair buy. However, even if you overpaid, you got a truck that is close to finished and drives great. In the end, I think you will be ahead of someone that started with a beater, like me. Fixing rust, finding and building a big block and sorting out all the little things takes so much time and money. You have short cutted most of that.

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
You didn't get screwed bro. It costs to play. And if it's truly what you said it is and just described here to us, it was a fair price. Trust me, you were ready to pay $7k for it and that extra $2k came from the other guys crowding around it that was about to buy it if you didn't. You'll will start to fell a bit better about the truck once you begin to drive it and other guys come up to you offering to buy it from you. Also, you'll get instant gratification from the light-to-light attention you'll get. Welcome!! And as you've heard a million times on here.........WHERE'S THE DAMN PICS? LOL!!!

How dare you go on and on about a SWB, rust free, big block truck with this and that and not post a PIC???
Well, you're part of the club now, so I guess you're forgiven - now post a pic of it already!

Welcome from VA and like most have said, the value is what someone will pay and with the options you've listed in the condition, and what YOU wanted it's worth it. I'm sure there are several on here that have paid around that much for just body parts, labor, and body work to restore a truck so you're ahead of the curve and can enjoy it now.

From Lake county California! Your gonna love this board. By the way, if you can afford 9 thousand dollars for a truck, you can afford to buy a cheap digital camera and post some PICS!

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?
Thanks guys; most of you anyway.
Not remorseful whatsoever, just seeing if I'm indeed the couple grand behind to begin with that I suspect I might be (depending on it's scarcity). This ain't my first rodeo...it is indeed a numbers matching BB and the factory tach is mentioned on build sheet, aling with the trim package, tinted windows, L47 396 and so on... Block matches the vin and the tranny and rear are date correct. It's the real deal with only a few dings that can be removed by a tinsmith (no stretched metal). Believe it or not there is no rust under the paint anywhere, not a bubble in sight...not even on the rocker panels. The truck spent it's life in a barn in the Nevada desert. Perfect body lines everywhere. But she she needs paint very badly and the wood is sunrotted so bad you can see the metal cross members in a few areas. REAL QUESTION IS: How many of these little creatures were made? (Short, Wood, Fleet, CST/10 400) The truck really only needs re-sealed, paint, trim pieces, rims and tires. Debating on a frameoff because it is just so clean underneath and it drives PERFECTLY...runs like a sewing machine, tight steering suspension and tranny. Stance is perfect too. EVERYTHING works on the truck; every light, switch and knob. Doors open and close effortlessly. Tailgate has scratches only, no dents at all and it's not bent. It's ugly as hell but I actually drove the old gal to soccer practice tonight and it's such a gentle ride. My dilemna is that it's SUCH a quality starting point on one hand (deserving a proper resoration IMHO) vs. a new factory matched colored paint job and calling it a day. Problem is it's dark gold (Fugly!). I will oblige with a few pics when I get it back out of the hanger. I put her away for a couple months while I finish some things on my 70 Nova. Thanks again for the insights... |

You can hardly buy a top of the line ATV or Snowmobile for 9K these days. If it's complete, and lacks rust, sounds like a good deal to me.
