Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Looks like a great truck to start with. I wish you luck and more fun and patients with your build than my father son build. BTW, I think it might be better to start when they are very young teaching basic mechanical skills

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
So far we are off to a good start. We got the body pretty well stripped down. As expected, some rust will need to be repaired, i'll post pics of the areas later.

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Planning to go back with the original green and white paint, and green interior. Going to move the fuel tank outside, maybe a Blazer set-up. What's the best way to go, plastic or metal tank?

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Nice truck. Have fun with the father/son build, it's good bonding time. we are pretty far along on our father/son build. As far as the gas tank, alot of people do the blazer conversion using a steel tank, but there are also aluminum tanks etc. all boils down to personal preference and budget. I would stay away from plastic personally....
Good luck with your build!

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Picked up a nice set of used doors off a 68. Thinking of using the 68 mirror brackets, what do ya think?
The color combination kind of makes me think of Christmas!

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
While Andy has been cleaning off the Liquid Nails that use to hold on the old door seals (yes you guessed it, the previous owner was a carpenter), I've been making repair panels for the driver's side air box.

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Finally was able to finish the driver’s side air box. Andy removed the driver’s side old rusty rocker. Surprisingly, there were only a few pits in the inner rocker and the cab corner so, I was able to fill those with a little welding, and then Andy applied a couple coats of Permatex Brand Rust treatment.

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
Got the driver's side rocker welded on. Darn thing fit like a six fingered glove so, its a good thing I have a hammer. Next will be the drip rail above the drivers door.

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
I know it's been a while since I've posted an update but that's not to say we haven't been busy. Since the last post we've repaired the drivers floor and kick panel, replaced the right rocker and right front-lower door pillar extension, repaired the right kick panel, repaired the right air box, repaired the firewall where the heater box goes, stripped the rest of the stuff off the cab, removed the cab from the chassis, removed the left & right drip rails and started sand blasting the rusty seams.
Tons of pics to follow.

Re: 1969 Father & Son Project
We've made a little progress since the last post. The cold weather and snow makes it a little hard getting motivated, especially since it takes the garage a while to get up to a comfortable temperature. We received about 20" of snow (can you spot the chassis in the snow pic) on the East just before Christmas and some of it is still piled up and the temperatures have been well below average.
To proceed with the sand blasting, we made a makeshift booth out of heavy gage plastic in the garage. Surprisingly, it worked pretty damn good. We also got both of the drip rails on. It looked simple enough to get those on when we started but they turned out to be a pain in the backside. After the blasting, and deciding we didn't like the Swiss cheese look, we order a patch panel for the front of the inner roof from Athey's. When I called Bill this past Saturday, he said he couldn't place the ordered until Monday and it would take about a week to come in. To my surprise, he called to tonight and said the panel was in already. Going to pay him a visit Thursday and pick it up. Three days, that’s what I call service! I'll post pics once we get the panel installed.
