Question short/long box questions!!!

i have a swb 68 GMC 4x4 and have been looking to replace the box as a whole! As you all know they are hard to find in one peace. A friend of mine found me a brand new long box from a 70 Chev that was removed that year to put a flatbed on the truck. its been sitting for 39 years and is in perfect condition, he will let me have it for free!!!!!Now don't get made at me but can it be cut to fit a swb chassis? is the extra length in the front of the box or front and rear of the wheel wells? Im going to get the box but i do NOT even wanna think about cutting it if its not going to work. Any info would be helpful. Thanks all.

There are a few people who have done that, cut a LWB and cut it down for a SWB. A couple on here have done it and posted threads about it. Do a search. Too me, that is a whole bunch of work. Personally, even if it was for free, I would rather be patient and find a SWB, and I do body and paint for a living!

Re: short/long box questions!!!

MTtruck, I would sell that get that bed from your buddy and sell it on here for someone wanting a tremendously nice long bed if it came off the same year that the truck was made. That would mean it would be close to factory take off. Someone on here would be itching to have a very nice long bed. I would still take the bed from your buddy. It would probably give you enough money to find you another swb bed. Trevor

i also think it is worth more as a long bed body piece, and upon selling it, you could have the funds to build out of new parts, the bed you want.

I found the above and paid $1500 about a year ago. It also was a take off. I agree that if you have a LWB take off...sell it and use the money for a SWB. JMHO
