Finally Finished my 462ci Build
Here's my 462ci that will go into my '63 C-10. Did the break-in this week, and will be getting ready for some 6000 rpm dyno pulls soon. On the last 5000 rpm pulls, it made (with no correction factor) 517 bhp at 5000 rpm and 580 ft-lb at 4200 rpms.
Thanks to David Basham of BMS Machine for the great machine work, and to Jeff Kauffman of Kauffman Racing Equipment for all of the trick parts and components. Eddie Leabo of Performance Carburetors built the 750 carb and Machine Tech Racing Engines is doing the break-in, tuning and, eventually, dyno pulls. On the warm up stand...

Wow, that's killer. Awesome that you're going against the grain with the Pontiac motor. Very cool.

Re: Finally Finished my 462ci Build
Thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure people realize anymore that they came 510 ft-lb from the factory. I went with a Comp for a hydraulic roller set up.

Starting at ~2000 RPM it should deliver ~525 ft lbs and peak close to ~580. Check out this video of another Poncho at the track with similar motor, cam, etc.... http://www.youtube.com/user/nsedm76ta Kinda feel sorry for my rear tires......Hehehehehehe |

That's a great looking engine. Ought to run as good as it looks. I'd like to see a vid as well.

Re: Finally Finished my 462ci Build
COOL!
I have a 455 torn down at a machine shop- has sat there for about 6 years, as the local drag strip shut down. Lucky before I spent the big $$. It was to be built as a copy of Jim Hand's engine. My wife asked me if I was putting it in my '63. She is a great wife. I'm saving the pontiac for the future, but did sell the firebird it was to go in and trying to sell the built TH400 |

Re: Finally Finished my 462ci Build
Thanks! Yeah, it was long haul (no pun intended)...lots of starts and stops along the way. Seems to work out that way when you have to trade and barter for parts that you need. The only thing I paid for besides my buddy's shop time was the carburetor - I've never had a new carburetor. LOL

Re: Finally Finished my 462ci Build
Very cool! Yep, me too - first family car I remember was the '67 Tempest - I loved that car. A '63 Tempest is what I always wanted to build, too; '60s theme street strip car, as well. But, that dream is getting dimmer. I still have most of the parts that I want to throw at it (I even have a pristine 4-bolt 455 block)...just need a good candidate. My Pontiac-powered C-10 will have to do for now.

Update on the 462 Pontiac
After working on other peoples' rides for a couple of months, I finally got around to final dyno pulls, mocking up the pulley drive system (the ATI Super Damper and the crank trigger wheel is making alignment a PITA) and making cardboard templates for the two-piece motor plates.

Re: Finally Finished my 462ci Build
Here are the motor plates cut out of 6061 T6, contoured and bolted to the machined area of the heads. I'm finishing up the steel mount plates and will weld them to the down bars shortly.
