My first project 1970 GMC Jimmy 2wd - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This will be my first project truck that I will undergo. Thanks to this web site I have the confidence to take on a project like this. It is a factory 2wd Gmc Jimmy with a chevy front clip that will be removed and changed back to a Gmc. It has a new 350 with a 700r4 air ride and new interior. So far I need to do a little body work on the passenger door and the top needs a little work. Name: blazer 220.jpg

Sure is cool that you want to give the GMC back it's identity!

I believe that that is a single wall top which was not available in 1970.
I wonder if some of that cracking isn't because of some loose or left out bolts.

those are the seams so if it ever experiencing any flexing (removal, driving, etc) - it is going to crack there...

I think every top I have has small cracks in these spots (some better - some worse).

The wheels and tire combo are 17x8 with 255/50r17 front and 17x10 with 285/50r17 rear. I will try to go the the c/10 gathering if I dont have to work that day.

Great looking Blazer. I'm in NC and I have a "Basket Case" 70 GMC 2WD also. What do you think of the (975+/-) Chevy 2WD Blazers? LOW NUMBERS Chevy, does that mean GMC's production numbers are super low? I think so, our 70 GMC 2WD are a rare bird. What you think? Thanks.

K5hart I'm not to sure about the air ride I all I know about it is it is an air ride technologies system with strong arm front tubular a arms.
As far as production numbers on the 2wd Jimmys from what I have read on this forum the were about a third of the 975 2wd blazers.

Looks like a clean truck to play with. Is it that clean under the hood? Real nice. Have fun with it.
We like lots of detailed pics around here.
The last top I have seen without cracks was in the 70's.

The rear is not c notched and the front inner fenders are in and tires do not rub with air dumped.

I think I did a good job. I Sold my Cobra and got a Jimmy. Much happier now and is cost me a lot less to drive in the money grubbing California.
