hole on side of block?
i have a 454 bigblock and i was wondering what are the 3 holes on each side of the block? they are capped or closed with some sort of cap!
350 small blocks also have them? are they replaceable? |

Re: hole on side of block?
Any auto parts store. They sell them as kits for engines. Or you can buy them individually.

Re: hole on side of block?
if they're not rusted out or leaking they're better off left alone

Re: hole on side of block?
Since this is the first time you've done this, order an extra one. They're cheap. Also, they are an extremely tight fit to prevent coolant from leaking out. I've used a small amount of high heat sealant around them before, but it's not necessary if the surfaces are clean and smooth.
Also, you will need some tool that you can use to insure they go in evenly... That's where the extra one may come in if you bugger one up... |

Re: hole on side of block?
I'd be very leery of an engine missing the block plugs. Why are they gone ? If the engine had straight water in it and freezing made them pop there is a high chance the block itself is cracked.
As far as installing them, just use a socket that fits snugly in the recess and tap them in with a hammer. Nothing to it.
