Mounting CD player?

I just bought and wired up a pioneer DEH-P4100SD cd player for my 72 custom/10 and cut the dash to put it in. My question is, how do i mount it so it wont move around in the dash and skip every time i hit a bump?

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

It shouldn't really be skipping, but if you need extra support, add a small metal brace at the rear of the unit. This should add alot of stability to the deck.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

ok i got another question. Could it be skipping because of a bad connection? Do i need to solder the wires? I just twisted and taped them. I know these are probalby stupid questions but im a newbie.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

Are you sure it's not the cd? If it does it with every cd it could b the cd player itself. Bad wiring doesn't make it skip.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

no its not the cd, it does it on any setting, ipod, radio, or cd. I should really say its more turning on and off, its almost like every time i hit a bump the wires disconnect and the power cuts out. I am going to solder the wires after school today just in case. Hopefully that will fix everything.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

Well, it didnt work. Ended up taking the stereo back(walmart junk) Then i had a little scare. I shut the glovebox door and i see a spark over by the ignition, then a whole bunch of smoke. I grabbed a hose and sprayed down under the dash, and it stopped. I thought maybe a wire touched some metal or something so i taped all the ends, until i got to the yellow ignition turn on for the radio, and it was burnt to a crisp. Where does this wire lead from? Should i just take this to a professional so i dont burn my truck down?

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

Yeah! If you don't have much experience with wiring, then it's best. You can always learn from it though, but if you do something wrong... like you said, it could go up in smoke. Yellow should (correct me if I'm wrong) most likely go to a constant 12 Volt source. It is so your stereo won't lose memory and forget the time and things like that. Which would explain why when it grounded it shorted out and smoked. Oh, and spraying a hose underneath the dash is asking for disaster. You're lucky if you didn't short anything else out.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

I thought Red was the constant?

In any case, I think a quick trip to a pro shop should solve the issue. Talk with them about it, most are mroe than willing to educate their customers. I would have them fix it and explain to you in detail what they did.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

The previous owner i believe did a do it yourself wiring job on the truck, as there are spliced wires and wires that just dont lead to anywhere all over the truck, so im going to have a professional re wire my whole truck this winter when i start to redo it. Thanks for your comments.

Re: Mounting CD plyer?

ok let me see if I can save you a few $$$$ if your truck has been..well... fixed a few times it maybe easier to find a clean harness from another truck....for the most part they just plug in here and run to there with another plug......check the for sale board here on guys parting trucks

as for the radio??? I would just run new wires from the fuse box to the radio and at least use the blue wire crimp connectors (you can pick up a kit pretty cheap at any auto parts store) then take your time read ALL the instuctions and keep everything neat... zip ties are your friend...

heres a link to a wiring diagram for your hole truck...like I said TAKE YOUR TIME....
