91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

I have access to a 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame with 350 motor and 700R4 transmission with brakes and wheel and tires including gas tank. This will save me a lot of time and money modifying my original frame. Does any one know if I can put my 57 chevy truck on it. I am worried about width and length. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

the wheels will stick out some, axles alittle to wide. But as for the frame it is the same width, and the wheel base is REAL close.

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

I have been surfing the web all day and I found that the 91 blazer has a wheelbase of 106.5 and the 57 is 114, does this sound correct?

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

I would have thought the blazer was longer wheel base than that. I haven't used one, just heard the big boys talk. I do know the the S/W base 77 frame I used was ~2" long wheel base, I just moved the axle on the spring to put it where I wanted it.

The 106.5 blazer wheel base that you got off the net, was that the s-10 blazer or the k-10 blazer?

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

Thanks BBB for clearing that up. I've heard of lots of guys using it for this swap. I wonder how they compensated of the differents in wheel base.

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

If it were me I'd modify my original frame and use those pieces if you can get along with the wheels sticking out of the wheel wells like a Hotwheels car. By the time you get done with making the body fit the later frame and look decent in the process you will wish many times over that you had just swapped the 4x4 stuff to the early frame.

I found a neat site with a listing of Blazer Specs http://www.coloradok5.com/specs.shtml But it doesn't show the stock tread width in those listings.

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

Look at my build thread, 74 K10 axles, trans & tranfer using 59 original springs. Issues: steering (at least 3 options), brakes (firewall or under cab), rear driveline needs to be modified, 4" axle lift kit for rear. In my mind easier that dealing with cab, radiator, bumper, etc. mounts to mate TF body to later frame. Steering can be easier than what I did using late model 2WD ps box that mounts in stock location.

"Hot Wheels" look only happens if you use offset wheels and big tires, look at my photo, the tires fit within the front and back wheel wells.

Re: 91 Chevy Blazer 4X4 frame

You can put your truck on it, my dad put one of his 55s on a 75 4 wheel drive frame. Although you will either have to shorten your bed, or lengthin the frame.
