Firewall hole what?

Next to the steering shaft is a hole, I think must be for a manual shift rod. My truck is an automatic, but hole is there. Could this have been a manual shift at one time, or is there a factory delete plug or cover?

Re: Firewall hole what?

Someone posted this sometime back. You probably can make one or order some rubber plug that used to go in those holes.

Re: Firewall hole what?

It should have had a metal plate with rubber backing held on with 2 screws covering it up for auto.

Re: Firewall hole what?

Thanks for the input . Clutch linkage, that makes sense.
So is it a rubber plug? That fills the hole.

Posted my replay at same time you answered.
So I'll look for a metal/ rubber plug.I wonder if it might be one that has metal fingers that snaps in place. I didn't see any screw holes in the body.

Re: Firewall hole what?

Since 8door's truck is a 68 the hole cover would have been a plastic snap in plug. The plastic plugs are not available so the metal plug can be used. The two mounting holes will have to be drilled. #6 hex head sheet metal screws 1/2" long is what is used in the 71-72 trucks.

Re: Firewall hole what?

Well firewall info is good I'm learning more from the pictures than just the "clutch linkage hole." Sounds like a conversation with a Proctologist
