My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Im 15 and in 10th grade and i am broke. My truck has a 350 with a RV cam and edelbrock carb. Its backed by a turbo 350 with a shift kit. It is actually a A/C truck with no A/C. No carpet, no soundproofing just plain floor. It has all the typical rust (cab corners, rockers and such). And now for some of the bad...
It does not lock, either door. The drivers side door im thinking the tumbler just froze up. and the passenger side door has something wrong with the door latch itself. The drivers side window will not roll down. Missing all the dash pieces besides the ashtray. For now im just going to put up some pics. I'll put up some more tomorrow Last edited by Wideopenracing15; 09-02-2009 at 05:38 PM. |

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
I guess im the lucky one. Im 15 and i got a '70 and a '72, the '72 is my daily driver with 350/350 that runs solid and as wideopen said regular rust on cab corners and rockers.

im 14 and my first is a 67 c10 327 4 spd. TONS of rust but very clean and straight body, along with a great running engine. I drove it home and it was almost a 2 hr drive and it did it just fine

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
I'm 20 now but I got mine at 15. I wish I had some pics on my computer of then. All I have right now are the pics of me working on it. That truck is definitely in better shape than mine was when I got it. As of right now the only original parts on the truck are the cab and bed. I'm finishing the frame and transmission swap right now. have fun with your project!

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Thanks guys. I just got home from golf practice so i might start working on it in a bit. There a lots of little things that need to be done to it that ill probably list as i go. But here is a list of goals i have for right now.
1)Get locks to work/windows 2)get the rest of interior put in it 3)Put in a radio 4)Strip the body and do some body work and stray it down with some sort of sealent primer and drive it like that for a bit 5)Rebuild the motor 6)possibly do a tranny swap to an saginaw 3 speed i have laying around. Thats it for now, i will be adding to the list and pics as i go. Oh and here is my photobucket album so you can see all the pics i have of this truck and my wrecked 72 i have. http://s692.photobucket.com/albums/v...deopenracing5/ Oh and any comments, help, or advice is greatly appreciated. |

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Then that should actually make it alot easier. Im pretty sure the Saginaw and TH350 cases are almost the same length, so you should be able to use the same driveshaft. Other than that it's just add a flywheel, bellhousing and stuff, and a trans. Good luck and post some pics when your done.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Went out today and got my passenger door to lock. That probably make more excited that it should have. The drivers side I think the lock itself is just toast so if all else fails and i cant find some locks for it i can just switch them around so i can drive it to school. Or maybe see if i can just drive my moms car and strip the paint next week and prime it?
On a side note. I found this rust spot and i was wondering if anyone makes a patch for this? Its on the Drivers side just on the flat part of the floor where its starting to slant? if that makes any sense im not sure how to say it Last edited by Wideopenracing15; 09-05-2009 at 05:48 PM. |

My truck sounds a lot like yours. And so did my story 2 years back. But you kick ass on it and stay with it, and you can have one of the most *****en trucks in highschool

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Thanks man. I'm pretty excited to get this project going. I love the fact that kids dont like these trucks because their old but the truth is that my truck as it sits is worth more than most of the cars that go to my school.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Good luck on the build. As far as the locks go, go down to autozone or ur local parts store. You should be able to get new locks with keys for no more than $15.

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Ok Im getting locks tomorrow i hope. I didnt have anytime to do anything this weekend.
On a side note. Ive changed my game plan. Since i have a Wrecked c10 in my back yard and that cab is in better shape than mine, Im going to take that cab off and put rockers on it. Then find a straight c10 frame to put it on. So here is my parts list. Rockers front clip frame motor And theoretically i should have a running truck. And yes I am taking in the fact of all the little things I know I'm going to need. |

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
good luck up there buddy..
not a bad start... why cant you drive it as is....or you that worried about your truck not being able to lock at school? Oh, i also drive a 68 to HS 11th here though... i started driving the truck to school last year...you sound like your making it harder than it is to get your pickup onthe road...

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Yeah pretty much I just want to have it lock to go to school. My school is notorious for getting cars broke into.
And it sounds simple on paper to get my truck on the road. But seems like more and more things keep coming up. Like we pretty much have redo the wiring under the bed due to it being old and spliced so many times. Also I've been trying to find locks for this old thing. Seems like every Auto store doesn't have parts or their computer doesnt even have my truck in it so they cant find out if they have parts. So pretty much I feel pretty stuck right now. |

Re: My Highschool Project truck a 1969 GMC C20 (Old Blue)
Sorry to hear about the problems. I had wiring problems with my tail lights also. Might wanna check the switch under the dash that attaches to the brake assembly and make sure it is working.
I can't believe that your auto parts stores don't have the locks. Maybe tell them that you have a 1969 Chevrolet C10 and see if they come up with them that way. As far as I know, they are the same thing, regardless of GMC/Chevrolet/C10/C20. Good luck

Well i just need the brake lights to work really. For some reason we aren't getting any current through the brake light wire. We have reverse lights though.
