Question about value of rare? parts

I've been trying to sell my 72 C-10 highlander with the factory 402, etc for over two weeks with no luck. Even at $1500 it's not moving, so something's not right with this economy. So now I'm thinking it may be time to part out the more valuable items, and drop the price accordingly, but I'm really not sure what the going rate is for the parts listed below, and I'm hoping some of you all can help me out:

Dealer installed cruise control with the correct switch, and the dual throttle cable setup.

Tilt Wheel

402 smog pump (complete and working)

Auxiliary battery tray

402 AC Brackets

72 clamshell motor mounts

402 heat shield on firewall

Sorry I don't have any pics on this computer, but this isn't a for sale thread anyways, I'm just trying to get a good idea of the approx range of value to help me decide how to get my investment in the truck back. Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

Tilt Wheel- $175

402 smog pump (complete and working)
Hard to say - depends on the date codes and mfg codes if it can be correct for a camaro or chevelle it might be woth something

Auxiliary battery tray
$75

402 AC Brackets
$150
72 clamshell motor mounts
$75

402 heat shield on firewall
$50

I would say two weeks is just not a long time to have it for sale
Advertise in lots of locations
It is a tough market - not as much fun money floating around

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

Is the truck complete? Driveable?

Where in California? Did you list it for sale on this board?

I would like first shot at your cruise control set up. Do you have any pics of the switch and set up? How much are you asking for it.

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

selling for only two weeks? No offense meant, but give it some more time. How are you advertising this? (sign in truck, ads on board and craigslist, and in paper?) Parking the truck next to MAJOR roadway....

Near Chico CA where I am, I am seeing trucks sell quickly on craigslist, but other cars are taking a while. I had a 92 buick park ave, salvage, selling for $500. Took 2 months to sell. Another car, 02 Saturn L300,Selling for $5000 (top of the line everything, would take at least $8000 to buy an import of this luxury), and this took 4 months to sell. Again, increase your trucks visiblity and wait. If you truck is not a rust bucket, you should be able to get $1200 to $1500 for it.

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

Thanks 68 BB.

It's not worth rendering the truck unusable to part out those items, since they're not worth as much as I'd hoped. I was thinking of putting the engine and trans in my better rust free truck, but I am working two jobs, and have zero time to work on anything.

Ledd Zepp and fine 69. I moved to Gardnerville, NV for work about 6 months ago, so I'm not in CA anymore. It was on the Reno Craigslist for over a month, actually. The ad ran out, and now I'm back to the idea of mothballing it for another 3 years or so. That's been the problem, is it sat in my old yard in Sacramento for 3 years and the gas tank clogged up something fierce, and now I can't get gas to flow at all, even to the pump. So it only runs on starter fluid, and that's been scaring people away. I should have listed it on this board, but figured it would be tough to sell since it needs to be towed.

Thanks to everyone for the input though! And I found some pics off an older post..

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

Drop a fuel line in a gas can which will take 5 minutes. Then can they listen to it run.

I know. I've seen them too. I even had a 72 Cheyenne Super K10 4 X 4 with 99,000 original miles that runs/ drives great sit unsold at $2,000. Some guy offered $1200 and I was tempted. This economy is just the pits.

I'll keep my hopes up though. At least I'm working and not too desperate yet. This would be a good time to stock up on cheap parts if you had money sitting in the mattresses!

Back to the thread though, what parts are actually worth the most lately and good to look out for? Shoulder belts come to mind?

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

can I see a pic of your cruise setup? I am thinking the set I found in a junkyard is correct with the pics of your truck. Trevor

Re: Question about value of rare? parts

I think you should take a little time to get the engine running correctly by fixing the fuel system and you won't have a problem selling.

From a buyers perspective, if the seller says there is something wrong with the engine and that's why it doesn't work, that is only the first thing that needs fixed. I would assume that there are many other things that need fixed too.

That thing would have sold a long time ago out in these parts.... hold on to it and keep trying to sell it.

Two weeks isn`t enough time for a friend to tell a friend his friend saw a truck for sale.
