More 70 C20 Intro

I introduced my truck here a couple of weeks ago and got it running with some help here. I have a question about my SPID; why do all of the option codes start with a 4 and have 6 digits???? Most of the ones I have seen here are shorter; maybe I just haven't looked at enough.

Here's a pic with dew all over it; I will have some more soon.

My grandfather bought new in 1970. It carried an 11 foot Dreamer Truck Camper for about 15 years. If I remember correctly back to when I was 6, it went straight from Suburban Chevrolet to Turfway camper salses for the installation of the camper. There are holes in the bottom of the bed where the camper was mounted. It has 59k original miles. I parked the truck in 2000 because I didn't have time to mess with it. More time available now that the family has grown.

Re: More 70 C20 Intro

i have seen that on a couple of spids recently, the only thing i can think of is that it was a canukia[canada] built truck. i have no real evidence but it seems like every thing that comes from there is done just a little differently.

Not, metric, just big and I don't think as common as the 8.75"'s. They are actually 9.50"X16.5 8 plies; I still have a couple of the original tires. They are fat dogs. The 16's I put on look like bicycle tires compared to them.

I think it is kind of strange that it has camper wiring, mirrors, and heavy duty suspension but no camper package. What else did the Custom Camper pack get you?

Re: More 70 C20 Intro

I have been wondering that about my 67 also. My spid looks like kyfig70c20's. Mine has serial #, Paint and SE# across the top. But I also see some that have V.I.N., W/BASE and SE across the top. Thoses spid's dont have long option numbers that start with a 4. Was this a model year change thing or what? I am sure some of you seasoned veterans know. BTW, my VIN says mine was built in Fremont, CA.

The VIN starts CE240F, which I think means Flint, MI.

C=Conventional
E=8 cylinder
2=3/4 Ton
4=Pickup
0=1970
F=Flint

You got it right according to my table.

This is a classic case of a truck being ordered by the dealership for a customer. It was not sitting on the lot.It is a base model 20 that was built up with individual options to haul a camper.Some dealers did it this way.The large factory mirrors are the giveaway. Believe it or not, the large mirrors were not included in the custom camper package.This truck has all the makings of a custom camper without the nameplate on fender.

Thanks Factorystock; any ideas on the 6 digit option codes? I have searched extensively and can't find out the distinguishing factor.

Re: More 70 C20 Intro

here's the requirements for the Custom Camper package...

There is no reason for your option codes being full code, some did it, some didn't. The reason could be as lame as the person typing out the spid could have been on a probation and was doing everything 'by the book'... a million reasons like that. My 69 GMC which was built in St. Louis had the full option code, however, my 70 CST/20 lonhorn I had had short code but from the same plant.

Re: More 70 C20 Intro

Yeah,it`s funny.The Custom Camper is just a nameplate option with required equipment to order.It`s the same on cars like Heavy Chevy,Rallye Nova,etc.it was another model but was a model off any of the other models.
I don`t know an answer to why some trucks had all the extra digits.I just know the only ones that matter are the three starting with the letter.That`s how the dealer data books list the options.

Re: More 70 C20 Intro

It looks like mine is missing the HD rear spring option even though it has leaf springs. Everything else is in the list. Thanks for the option list Longhorn; that's good stuff.
