disks installed which booster and m/c?

I installed disks up front on my 67 from a 72. The booster and m/c on there was already on the truck but both are shot. So do I get a 67 replacement booster and m/c or use set up from disk brake equipped truck? Please help.

Re: disks installed which booster and m/c?

The 67 MC is a drum MC. The 72 MC is a disk MC with a larger capacity reservoir. I would very strongly recommend using 72 MC. The booster I'm pretty sure is the same for both disk or drum brakes. Find out what kind of booster the truck you got the disks from had. Be aware the GM offered both Delco and Bendix boosters for 71-72 half ton trucks. If it's a big pancake looking thing that's black, it's a Delco. If it's more cannister shaped and gold, it's a Bendix. Also, buy a new/rebuilt MC and booster. that way you know you have a safe braking system. BTW, I think you have to change out the old drum prop valve for a newer disk prop valve or an adjustable one. Sorry I'm spending all your money but you wanna do it right when it comes to brakes.

You may also need a new prop valve for Disc/Drum

For disC brake swaps you want to get the master cylinder and proportioning valve to go with the calipers.

Make sure you get the right length pushrod that goes between the MC and the booster.

Re: disks installed which booster and m/c?

So if I get a replacement booster which is a bendix style on my truck, the pushrod should be correct? Then get a disk brake m/c and my only worries should be the lines goin in to m/c and if the prop valve is correct. How to tell if prop valve is working properly? I also looked at autozone boosters are all the same between years.

I also noticed that the booster mounting brackets are longer on the disc brakes than the drums. I think they are about 5 1/2 inches long and the drums are about 3 1/2 inches.

As long as you are using the same type of booster I'm pretty sure that the pushrod will be the same. When you get everything installed and the system properly bled take a drive and slam the brakes on. If the rear tires lock up about the same time that the fronts do and you don't have a brake warning light, then your prop valve is working OK. If the rear end locks up real early or not at all, then you have the wrong/defective prop valve.

Here are some pics
they left is a Delco

You can get a new replacement master cylinder with an adaptor piston rod to work with manual or power brakes. We sell them. We also sell New Delco style boosters.

Good to know. I made mine using part of my original & part of the one from the donor truck.
